Just 100 feet from the back deck flows the river, where you can fish, swim, canoe or kayak, run in the sand or watch large numbers of wildlife. There are deer, turkey, fox, eagles (and many more bird species) to be seen. Smallmouth bass, walleye and pike can be caught in the river by you and your family. The cabin is just 20 minutes from famous Wisconsin Dells or Baraboo. The Aldo Leopold Historical Site is just down the road, and Madison is a short 40 minutes away. We just wanted to get away for the weekend and stay somewhere quiet and cozy. We came up from Illinois and the drive was easy, and while there are a lot of backroads there’s also plenty of signs to make it easy to get to Jack’s cabin. We did get a warning before we came that the mosquitos are fierce and yes, that’s true but we came well prepared (with bracelets and spray) so they weren’t a bother to us. This home is exactly what we needed, so cozy and comforting in its simplicity. The backyard is so amazing spacious, and the river view is breathtaking. Nothing overly fancy and everything you need! River was high for our stay this year and up to the ditch in back yard- and hence mosquitos were pretty terrible. But John makes that very clear in all the booking info that could happen- so we were warned. Cabin had plenty of tiki torches and bug spray to help. Didn’t get to spend as much time This year in the yard and on the river as years past, but you can’t go wrong with the location of this cabin. It is 15-20 minutes to get almost anywhere but we knew that and were ok with that. We didn’t battle the mosquitoes I see everyone mention but there were a lot of spiders. That is just due to the location. I loved that there were extra towels and pillows. The shower is pretty small (It’s a cabin afterall) and my husband is a very big tall guy so he did have a bit of a hard time. Not a complaint at all, just an observation. The dogs across the street do bark a LOT but no dogs came to visit us. We did see lots of wildlife and enjoyed fishing right out back. This is a cabin so you have to not expect a 5 star hotel. We didn’t want to leave. Everything was super clean, the accommodations were above and beyond. It was like staying at a family cabin.
