  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud. This is where every child in this town went to school in this picturesque location but as time rolls on is Appalachia move on too? #appalachianechoes

  • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

Convenient. About 8 min relaxed drive to Beech Mtn Resort parking I think. The town of Beech Mtn about 4 min. Banner Elk restaurants about 12 min away I think. Nice house. Sleeps many quite comfortably. Strange there isn’t a needed third bathroom. POSSIBLY THE MOST FEATURE RICH RENTAL I CAN REMEMBER. Loved our stay!! The house is beautiful and the view is amazing.. woke up to snow yesterday morning. Loved the family of deer they visited a lot. The place is above and beyond the pictures we will be back next year.

Mr. Tood was great!!! Very responsive and kind. The cabin has great views and the deers are friendly..lol but we did not feed them. There was a couple issues with the appliances like the refrigerator and the kitchen sink hot water. Other issues hallway bathroom didn't seem to get warm. Lastly the downstairs game room area could use a half bathroom-just a toilet and sink. The host did address the refrigerator issue but couldn't get anyone to come look at it due to the holidays.

The Kastle was well-equipped with all the cooking essentials we needed, as well as refrigerator, keurig, coffee pot, toaster, dishwasher, etc. The pool table and air hockey table got use, as did the dart board. We didn't have time to use the hot tub, but if it had been hotter outside, we would have made time. It was great to see the deer in their own habitat, as well as to hear the sound of the creek below. The television in each room option was great, and the wi-fi made it easy for our son-in-law who had some work-from-home to get finished.

KastleRock

You get what you pay for…

Very reasonably priced. We had our elderly in-laws with us… toilets good for handicapped but not the bathing areas and there is no seating in the home suitable for handicapped. All backless stools for dining and a vey low sofa. The living area on the main level reaked of the smell of an ash tray so we weren’t able to spend much time there. Shower heads have zero water pressure, only a drip at times, so you have to wash your hair in the big jacuzzi tubs. Nice game room area! Beautiful views from the hot tub (though it’s on its last leg) Just needs a good cleaning and some updates.

GREAT!

Just left this property with a family party of 11. The house was clean and well-maintained. The teenagers enjoyed having their own space in the living room area outside of the master bedroom. The owner, Todd, was extremely responsive. I messaged him about a missing remote control and someone brought us one within 10 minutes. We also enjoyed feeding the family of deer that came through the yard every day at dusk.

Amazing views!!

We had a wonderful time staying here! Town is close with lots of fun things to do! The kids got to gem mine and the mountain coaster was well worth it! The views from this place it worth staying here alone! There is enough space for everyone to be together or spread out! We watched several firework shows for the 4th and it was amazing! The owner was wonderful with the communication, knowledgeable and very helpful! Definitely would come back!

Our first family vacation in two years couldnt have been better. We got to enjoy mountain views and peaceful nights, which made engaging with each other a really special time. We were visited every morning and evening by one of the resident deer and she would walk all thw way up to the covered porch for us to fed her carrots. Amazing trip, thank you Todd and Christie!

The property is nice but could use some upgrades. There was a broken tile in the master bath and the outdoor area had old, unusable furniture. Overall, this was nice and we had a great time! The location is excellent!

Great description with less than stellar amenities

Property advertised as handicapped friendly. Both bathroom floors had huge cracks that were large enough to be considered tripping hazards. Lots of small rugs on floors. Also tripping hazards. Furniture in sitting area very worn and uncomfortable. Outside patio featured indoor furniture that had been there for a while and was weather worn. Not too classy! Cleaning fees are expected in rental properties, but I've never been required to strip linens from all beds including duvet covers and start washer with bath linens. My group has been renting properties for many years for our trips and this is by far the worst experience we have had.

Wonderful getaway

The house exactly what we hoped for. Very clean , spacious, and centrally located. The fall colors were very beautiful! Everything was within 40 miles. Great shopping in Blowing Rock and Boone. Lots of hiking trails, waterfalls, and history! Hope to be back soon!

WOW! My family and I went a short trip to Beechmountain NC not sure where to stay and with15 people. Kristy and her husband made sure this was our home away for home. Very clean well spaced out jumped right on any questions we had. The house is really just down the street for everything and my sister Jane said they love the house and the views and she could just live there. Thank you again Shari
