It is still the best hotel in Bahirdar but it is in decline the rooms are quanint but some have major water damage in the bathrooms with mushrooms growing on the falling ceiling. This trip I had water problems with no hot water in the shower. The spa was extremely disappointing my hour long massage only lasted 30 minutes and it wasn't great. The hotel has a Flint Stone feeling. Clean, Quiet, Relaxing, staff are attentive. Pro: The lake view, central and safe location, the free MASSAGE is priceless, Clean and eco-friendly rooms, free airport shuttle, free breakfast Cons: Wifi was nonexistent. None of us were able to respond to our work emails, very irritating. The pool is dirty green/ algae (We had children who wanted to swim), restaurant food is 5/10, food service takes at least an hour or more to be served even for the simplest cup of tea and the food is not that good. Our group of 11 split and went to an outside restaurant after a couple of days of unpleasant experience, when we return from lunch the other half is still waiting for their order. Spacious rooms with nice terrace where you can relax with a wood burning fire in the evening. Very friendly staff. However, property could be updated a bit. Wifi is weak unless you’re in the lobby - need signal boosters. Shower has no water pressure, and little regulation of hot and cold. Doors do not shut or lock easily (bar serves as lock once inside), and while rooms are sprayed, mosquitos do get into the room requiring manual spraying. It was easy to book trips on the lake to the monastries and to Blu Nile from the site. The outside bar was a beautiful place with a wonderful view. The restaurant and the hotel are the best in town. The wifi was ok. The reception is dark and somber, the rooms very unclean around the edges, and the exposed incandescent bulb the lighting of choice. The fish at the restaurant is cooked to something resembling jerky, which itself feels like the vast dining hall of an all-inclusive resort. It seems there is no one around really running the show, and the English and training level of the staff is outright poor. Unfortunately the hotel is quite dysfunctional. Despite emailing three times and being assured that every flight was met, I was the only person on the flight not picked up by shuttle. While they then upgraded my room as a gesture, this was only the first issue. I was told the hotel was fully booked and I couldn’t stay the next night (despite availability online). This meant I had to cancel a trip that was planned for the next morning. It was only later that morning they admitted they had made a mistake and had availability, despite my raising it the afternoon before. The staff try hard but lack training. Sitting down at the restaurant I would only get a menu each time after asking twice and waiting 30 minutes. The food was okay but some dishes are not cooked properly. Unfortunately the lack of basic information and poor service makes what should be a nice place to stay, quite a stressful place. The hotel also was very unhelpful providing basic information about travelling. I asked 4 times about onward travel to Gondar. It was only after a lot of trying that they told me the information about buses. I think the hotel doesn’t want independent travellers and wants to charge a premium to book everything privately for you. With a little effort this could be so lovely! The resort was beautiful, with a lovely view over Lake Tana. Our room was very comfortable and we were even given an upgrade with an upstairs room, it had a view of the lush garden and also Lake Tana. The hotel was very clean throughout and we ate regularly at the restaurant where the staff were very attentive and the food was good. There were occasions where the full menu wasn’t available but this didn’t distract from the experience. We took advantage of the free massages which were a nice bonus. The pool area was lovely and clean and we really enjoyed spending time relaxing either on the loungers and the couches which overlooked the lake. WiFi was a bit hit and miss, as was the water which was cut off on occasion but again this didn’t particularly impede on our time there and perhaps wasn’t necessarily the hotel’s fault. We enjoyed the free massages and the staff were friendly and helpful on the whole. The room was fabulous, spacious and comfortable. Occasional power and water outages, but these were very brief. We’d definitely recommend this hotel. The hotel has a very typical architecture that doesn’t clash with the environment (unlike other hotels in the surroundings). The room was very nice and cleaned every day (twice). We had some trouble with the electricity plugs and noise (we came on Ethiopian New Year’s Eve, the first night we didn’t sleep at all because of the noise, next days were much better, although you can hear the moazine from close by mosque every day at 4:00am). The restaurant of the hotel was very nice. The swimming pool was dirty so we didn’t use it. I took one complementary massage- it was very nice although the massage was only 30min long (instead of 45min)- but we found it to be a very nice complementary service from the hotel to offer. Die Zimmer sind sehr geräumig, sauber und schön! Auch das Restaurant hat ein sehr gutes Essensangebot und ausgezeichneten Service. Der Spaß mit seinen Massagen waren ebenso ausgezeichnet. Lediglich vom Informationsfluss an der Rezeption waren wir etwas enttäuscht. Informationen über Busse o.ä. mussten wir selber rausfinden. Auch die beiden Touristguides waren eher uninformiert und haben uns z.b. einen völlig überteuerten Bus nach Gondar organisiert. So etwas dürfte bei den Preisen nicht sein.
