A breathtaking property located high in the jungle canopy, complete with three swimming pools, an outdoor billiards table, a home gym, and a swim-up bar, as well as a crazy kids' room that's only accessible through a super-secret entrance in the wall, this villa is the stuff of legends. Far more than your typical luxury vacation rental, The Jade House is a full-on life experience. It's the kind of place you visit with friends and family, and a decade later you're still talking and laughing about the trip. The memories, photos, and good times never really leave you. You'll always want more because it's a destination that's impossible to replicate. What makes The Jade House so special? In truth, many things. The location is 10 minutes up a mountain road between the towns of Dominical and Uvita which is ideal for anyone taking a tropical vacation. From thrill-seekers to those eager to soak up the Central American sunshine without lifting a finger. There are spellbinding beaches both to the north and south of the villa; a multitude of outdoor adventure tours nearby; wildlife galore around the property; 5-star dining restaurants dotting the coastline; and plenty of fresh fruit stands, souvenir shops, and beach bars to keep everyone busy for the entire trip. Digging into the details, you'll quickly realize that The Jade House is one of the grandest properties in the region. A full-scale renovation project, completed at the tail end of 2023, has elevated this elite property into another stratosphere. Let's delve into the particulars: The Jade House features three floors, with 7 bedrooms in total. The total capacity at the villa is 19 guests. Caretakers who live onsite and do a light cleaning 6 days per week. The property borders are covered with exterior surveillance cameras. 4x4 vehicles are required to reach the property, with gated parking for 6 cars. There are 3 swimming pools (1 with a swim-up bar), as well as a pool for lounging in the water. There is one pool that can be heated at 95 °F during your stay at an additional cost of USD 400.00 for stays up to 10 days. If this is required please ask before your booking confirmation. Every bedroom has an air-conditioning unit. Each bathroom features dual shower heads. Located downstairs, the secret kids' room has 3 single bunk beds, twin mattresses (7 beds total) a television, and a full bathroom with a large shower. There's also a big bedroom downstairs (Garden Suite) with a king bed, television, en-suite bathroom that looks at the rainforest, and a walk-in closet. On the ground level, the primary bedroom (Harmony Room) features a king bed, en-suite bathroom, television, soaking tub, and direct access to the outdoor lounge pool. There is a second bedroom on the ground level (Tropics room) with 2 single mattresses that can form a king bed. This bedroom also has access to its own bathroom and shower. Moving to the top level of the villa, there are 3 more elegant bedrooms, all with king beds, en-suite bathrooms, and direct access to a gorgeous wrap-around deck with sensational views of the Pacific Ocean, Cano Island, and the famous Whale's Tail reef in Uvita. A new workout gym has been added near the parking area. Further amenities include indoor and outdoor dining spaces; a living room with multiple seating options and a flat-screen smart television with Netflix, Roku, etc accounts you can sign into; an outdoor bathroom and shower; a big ole' BBQ; an outdoor cooking wok; the aforementioned pool table; hammocks and lounge chairs; 1 huge ice machine; a dishwasher; as well as washer and dryer units for clients. As mentioned, The Jade House is fully equipped to comfortably handle large groups of family and friends. The one thing it isn't, however, is a party palace. We ask all guests to abide by the rules of the property when visiting. From the Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose (SJO) it takes approximately 3 ½ hours to drive to the villa. The majority of our clients rent 4x4 vehicles and head south from the airport, but shuttle options are available as well. If you do decide to utilize the shuttle service, please keep in mind that you'll need to switch to 4x4 rental cars or taxis before navigating the mountain road up to the property. A third option is to fly into San Jose and then take a 20-minute commuter flight into Quepos, which is a half-hour north of Dominical town. Top outdoor activities in the vicinity include surfing, kayaking, hiking, zip-lining, parasailing, river rafting, snorkeling, horseback rides, and inshore and offshore fishing trips. Fly fishing tours are also becoming popular along the Savegre River. And, of course, there is the area's diverse wildlife, which will completely blow your mind. It's common to spot white-faced and howler monkeys at the property. If you're lucky, you'll set your sights on a sloth, too. Scarlet macaws, toucans, and parrots regularly navigate the jungle canopy nearby, while blue morpho butterflies love to say hello during those morning cups of coffee taken on the balcony overlooking the sea. There are also supermarkets, banks, and pharmacies within a 20-minute drive of The Jade House. For sports fans, it's a 5-minute walk to Jumanji - a great open-air restaurant/bar with great food and very nice atmosphere. For more upscale dining, try Resturante Scala, a wonderful establishment located a bit further down the mountain road. The Jade House is by far the most incredible vacation and home I’ve experienced yet. We had 12 adults celebrating 2 milestone birthdays and we will remember this forever!The views, the pools, the sounds, the comfort- stellar! We watched whales, we had massages on the pool deck, naps on the hammocks, saw the most gorgeous sunsets and played billiards outdoors. It was something for everyone. Jonathan the host was impeccable and responsive to all our needs, not to mention setting us up with the very best experiences in Costa Rica too. 5 bedrooms with views and en-suite baths were amazing. The 6th room (2 twins- Tropics room converted to King bed) was extremely comfortable yet no views, and while not en suite, the bathroom had an open air, yet private shower that was gorgeous. The home is so fully equipped with everything you need to cook and beyond. The towels are plentiful. The beds super comfortable, plenty of room to roam. This home was so beautiful we didn't want to leave. The property manager Jhonnathan was so helpful in any and all needs as well as the care takers who cleaned and did laundry on a daily basis and were available for any of our needs. Any problems that arose which were few were taken care of immediately. The view from this property is absolutely stunning. The road entering the property is really not as bad as others say, we had no problem with the drive up. Even our Costa Rica friends drove up in their Toyota (not a 4x4) with no problem to visit. I highly recommend this home it is one of a kind and absolutely stunning in every way. I will definitely stay here again on one of our next visits. I highly recommend this home to everyone you will be happy you chose it. It does not disappoint in anyway. Luxury at its finest. We had an absolutely wonderful time and a lot of it was because of this beautiful house. Dominical area is such a beautiful part of Costa Rica, but this house is so stunning, that we didn't even want to leave the house half of the time to explore, so it's all part of the beauty. From the moment I started talking with the You Get Here team, they were extremely responsive. They helped me with every question we had, helped set up excursions for us, put us in contact with The Private Chef and were always there when we needed anything. The caretakers, Divier and Carolina, are absolutely wonderful and are so kind and so helpful. Divier even came down one day to tell us about a sloth they had seen in a tree right near the house so that we could all enjoy it too. The house has everything you could possibly want and then some. We all had wonderful rooms and the kids were so happy in the bunk room, which is absolutely great even for teenagers! You definitely need a 4x4 to get up to the house so make sure you book one. And, the convenience of the Bar Jolly Roger to walk to for dinners/lunches is fabulous. Salads, burgers, wings and pizza and a very nice staff so that was so nice! The pools at the house and the views are stunning! Don't hesitate to book this house. You won't be disappointed! ##### Jennifer G. We were a group of 16 (8 adults and 8 children) visiting from Canada. The Jade House was a perfect fit for our group with everyone having a place to sleep, plenty of room to gather together, but also ample quiet spaces to seek out when needed! The listing and pictures are accurate but do not do this place justice! It is absolutely stunning! They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable - the amenities (pool, BBQ, pool table, industrial sized ice maker!) and other small features - blender, waffle maker, etc were all wonderful! We had clear nights with amazing views of the stars and we were able to see toucans and other animals from the pool! We did not want to leave! The property caretakers, Didier and Carolina, were amazing! Very helpful and pleasant! The location was great - in between Dominical and Uvita. A couple of cautions to note would be that the road to the house is rough. A 4x4 is definitely recommended! Also, parking at the house is a bit challenging. There are really only flat spaces for three vehicles. If you have more vehicles, they may need to be parked on the steep driveway. We did this and had no issues, but just be aware. Those are minor issues as far as we are concerned and we would 1000% stay here again! Book it, you will not regret it! ##### Tammy K. With the 3 pools and different seating areas it never felt crowded. We spotted toucans, monkeys, and a sloth from the deck. The tours (we did zip line and ATV) were a highlight for all ages, and I highly recommend The Private Chef. The Jolly Roger Bar is a close walk, and some of us enjoyed a morning walk a bit further down the hill to the cafe. The walk back up to the house is steep, but doable. Uvita and Dominical are close drives, although the road up the mountain is an adventure and I do not recommend driving after dark. There are currently renovations being done at the house and the children’s room is now smaller than shown in photos. The 3 bunk beds were great for our 6 kids ages 8-14, but it’s really just a place to sleep, not a space to hang out or play. They have added an extra bedroom beside the children’s room that might be useful for parents with younger children who want to sleep close by. We experienced some flooding on the lower level due to the renovations and heavy rain. The caretakers of the property live in a separate casita and they responded quickly to fix the problem and clean things up. Having them nearby to help with any unexpected issues was invaluable. Overall it was a fantastic week in a gorgeous setting that offers both adventure and relaxation. ##### Julie F. Our communication with the property manager was top notch. The Yougethere group, but namely Steve, was awesome to work with. He also helped with excursions and advice on different areas to visit. It was spacious and open with plenty of seating and quiet bedrooms. It had all the little extras that make a stay easy: lots of pots and pans and dishes, pool towels, daily cleanings and pretty good wifi coverage for Costa. The view is incredible. Note that one bedroom has two twin beds that do not exactly make up as a king. There is a gap between them even when pushed together. Also, expect a separate contracting process with You Get Here, the property managers, in addition to VRBO. Easy to do but maybe easiest to contact You Get Here directly. Property Management was easy to work with and the house was fully stocked with all the necessary amenities. Towels for the pool, towels for bathing, towels for the beach! The view is amazing and we never tired of it! Make sure you rent a 4x4 vehicle because the road up is no joke...if it's your first time to Costa Rica, you might be surprised by the incline on a dirt road. If it's not, you probably are prepared. We ate twice at the Jolly Roger - super convenient and a good variety (burgers, pizza, chicken wings, salad etc) and just a bit down the road. The house was more than we needed (2 families of 5 and grandma/grandpa) - everyone was very comfortable. 4 kings, 2 twins and 6 twins downstairs in the kids room. The 4 kings all had ensuite bathrooms. TV was off almost all week (nice!) but the wifi was enough for the kids to have some downtime with devices when needed - but they spent most of their time at the house in the pools! We saw sloths, howler monkeys, and tucans from the deck! ##### Katie D. We traveled with our two kids who were 1 and 3, and the 3 year old LOVED the kids room! The only negative about that was it was so far from everything else and since he is younger we couldn’t leave him down there by himself. It was an awesome room and had a play kitchen, which he loved! The pools and views were amazing. We saw howlers, 2 sloths (one was a mama and a baby), tons of parrots and toucans. It was fun to watch for wildlife from the pools and patio. We had a couple of private chefs cook for us during our stay, and Chef Roy was phenomenal. He grew up in CR, is easy to talk to, provided a very nice experience and wonderful meals. Highly recommend using him if you stay! The gentleman who stayed on property and his wife were so sweet and incredibly helpful. Unfortunately, upon our arrival on Friday evening, the fridge was not very cold. We bought a few hundred dollars worth of groceries on the way in and hoped it would be cooler in the morning, but it was hotter! :( Having 2 little ones, one being a baby, it was really important to have certain things for them and milk needs to remain cold. We moved what we could save to the bar fridge and put whatever didn’t fit in coolers. Then the ice machine stopped producing ice, so we couldn’t keep coolers filled with ice. Repairmen came Monday to fix the fridge, and it cooled things off, but by Tuesday morning, everything was frozen! Milk, eggs, yogurt, everything! So they came back Tuesday but things were still frozen Wednesday. We left Thursday morning. We ended up losing a ton of food that we could never use because of the issues with the main refrigerator. We had to spend more money to eat out since we couldn’t use what we bought. It was beyond frustrating. I waited several weeks to review this place because property management was going to check with the owners about refunding part of our trip. I’ve not heard anything, which is incredibly disappointing because you would hope they’d want to make it right and encourage their visitors to stay again. We love CR, and this was our third time to the country. We WILL go again, and we would have loved to stay here again because the house itself is fantastic.
