  • Home of Freeman Walker, outstanding citizen of early Georgia. Born in Virginia in 1780, he came to Richmond County in his youth and studied law. Freeman Walker, in 1826, deeded 70 acres of land to the United States Government to be used as an arsenal-the site now of the Junior College of Augusta. He reserved one acre as a family burial ground, known as the Walker Cemetery. He was the father of Maj. Gen. W. H. T. Walker, CSA. Admitted to the bar in 1802, he followed a life of public service; City Attorney for three years and Mayor of Augusta 1817-19, being the first to hold the city´s chief executive office under the name of Mayor, and Brigade Inspector of Gen. Valentine Walker´s brigade in 1813. He represented Richmond County in both branches of the State Legislature and represented Georgia in the U. S. Senate. His speech on the Missouri Compromise attracted nation-wide attention. He died in 1827 and is buried in the Walker Cemetery.

This property was very nice in the pictures, however, when we arrived, we found that the surrounding area did not feel safe. The back yard is not fully fenced like noted in the listing. The house had a very strong smell. However, the house did seem to be well stocked with anything someone could need during their stay. The check in process was very easy. Ultimately, we decided to leave early and get a hotel in another area of the city.

The steps leadimg up to the door were very sketchy,for an older person like myself it was a bit scary loose bricks ,stones no lights that actuality lit up the steps at night the light flickered we used our cell phone flashlights as we arrived in the dark . I did travel with our little mini aussies when. We were in the unit they were out runninb ground the rug in the dining area had tasssles they are young so they were playing with them to much to my liking i didn't wabt them to ruin it so i thought let me just roll this up and put it aside until we leave ,kind of take the what they thought " toy " away puppies anyway i did and boy i dint think anyone ever moved that table to ever clean the amount of dirt i exposed was insane needless to say we all had dirty soaks after that lol but the rug was put back down unscaved from the dogs prior to leaving . You may want to ask your cleaning crew to do a deep clean maybe twice a year or something..just things we never think about.other than that loved the unit was beatiful thank you loved the hardwood floors abd i thonk im.going to have my husband put the same in our house thars how much i loved them we have a darker style and with 8 little paws now i really appreciated that light color. Very quiet neighborhood. We never heard any voices or noises from any of the other tenants. Having a bathroom in each of the bedrooms was very nice. It was close enough to our family in Evans, not having a long drive to be with them. We cooked breakfast each day which was also very convenient to our stay. Text communications with the owner were spot on. No troubles experienced.

After concert crash

Great place for me, my husband and 2 other family members to crash after a concert. Easy check in/check out. Place was clean, easy to find, quiet neighborhood and communications with host were exceptional! I wish we could have stayed longer!

A for Azalea!

Great and comfortable stay, felt like home! We enjoyed having use of all the amenities, most importantly preparing meals in the kitchen and being able to do laundry. We felt safe at this location, very quiet with many shops and businesses near by. The owner was attentive to my needs. I will definitely book this stay again!

Azalea is awesome!

My friend and I were in town from ATL for a Christmas show. It was nice having our own rooms with comfy beds and not having to share a hotel room. Location is near lots of shopping and restaurant options and is only 7 miles from downtown Augusta. The house is cute, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay!
