A local couple unearthed the bath house in 1993 while carrying out renovations on a property they planned to turn into a shop. They discovered clay pipes embedded in a wall similar to those visible at Roman baths in Pompeii. Further digging revealed an archway, which led to a tunnel and a hypocaust. Originally said to be a Turkish hammam, archaeologists later dated it at around 2,000 years old. Tours provide a detailed history of the site from its finding to its plans for the future. The Ancient Bath House of Nazareth and gift shop are open from Monday to Saturday. Advanced bookings are advisable for groups of more than four visitors.
