Standing in the former capital of Roman Judaea, the venue hosted plays, gladiator battles and mass executions under the rule of King Herod the Great. Appreciate the spectacular scenery from this open-air venue that overlooks the sparkling blue of the Mediterranean Sea. As you take your place on the seats that wrap around the amphitheater, imagine this place as it was in ancient days. The structure was built to present Greek and Roman plays. Later mime, gladiator contests and sports tournaments were held in this arena, which was also a popular gathering point for local townspeople. Learn of the gruesome mass executions of the Jews who were seen to have revolted against the Romans. As a means of retribution and entertainment, they were tortured and killed here in front of crowds baying for blood. Today, the amphitheater presents a tranquil and scenic setting. The hotel itself is just a minute walking from anything shopping to restaurants, but away from the busy streets and noise. I’ve stayed in Ramallah before but nothing compares to this one and will be back again on my next trip to the area!
