![Originally meant to be the president's residence, dictator Porfirio Diaz ordered the construction of this building, it was delayed multiple times but in the meantime  Diaz's government was overthrown by the war named Mexican Revolution. In time the project was reactivated but now as a monument honoring said war. If you visit, make sure to stay after sunset. People get together on the esplanade and you can see all kinds of colorful traditions. "Communication with hotel prior to, and upon arrival was excellent. Front desk staff, in particular, Minu, were excellent. Room was very clean & comfortable. Gabi, cleaned the room wonderfully. We found the restaurant to be of better value than the buffet and food was very good there. Location is great and we felt safe in the area despite there being homeless people around. Heavy & visible police presence nearby. Protests in main square but peaceful. The hotel is overall very good value & we are glad we chose it vs well known chain hotels. "
