![Decebalus is considered a national hero in Romania and has been portrayed in numerous literary works, movies, public sculptures, and other memorials.

The rock sculpture of Decebalus  (Romanian: Chipul regelui dac Decebal) is a 42.9 m (141 ft) in height and 31.6 m (104 ft) in width carving in rock of the face of Decebalus (r. AD 87–106), the last king of Dacia, who fought against the Roman emperors Domitian and Trajan to preserve the independence of his country, which corresponded to modern Romania.
The sculpture was made between 1994 and 2004, on a rocky outcrop on the river Danube, at the Iron Gates, which form the border between Romania and Serbia. It is located near the city of Orșova in Romania.
It is the tallest rock relief in Europe.

The project of sculpting the colossal head of Decebalus was the brainchild of a wealthy Romanian businessman, Iosif Constantin Drăgan. In 1985, Drăgan chose the rock to be sculpted, an outcrop 128m in height located in the area of Iron Gorge, Danube. Perhaps one of the reasons Drăgan chose this site was due to the fact that the Tabula Traiana, a memorial to the Roman conquest of Dacia, was located on the opposite side of the river. 
After the sculpture was completed Latin inscription was put beneath it and is: DECEBALUS REX DRAGAN FECIT,  which meant “King Decebalus, made by Dragan”.
The best photographs are made while cruising if you are visiting from serbian side or from a bridge if you are already in Romania.

« L’hôtel est impeccable sauf 2 petits bémols Un problème c’est que la taille du parking est trop petite par rapport au nombre des visiteurs. Il paraît qu’il existe un parking souterrain dans les environs (j’ai vu une pancarte) .. J’ai eu des soucis avec la climatisation, il faisait chaud dehors pour le mois de novembre..je n’arrivais pas a baisser la temperature »

« Très bon hôtel. Les chambres très propres, la literie très confortable, chambre spacieuse pour 1 personne. Seul bémol, pour la restauration qui est certes parfaite mais l’attente est vraiment trop longue. Même si j’ai vraiment pris mon temps, c’était pas normale. Je conseille pour cette ville cet hôtel les yeux fermés. »

« Nous avons dormi un nuit supplémentaire dans cette pension à l'accueil chaleureux, à la propreté irréprochable, à la superficie des chambres, au calme des lieux, à un petit déjeuner certes non compris dans la chambre mais de qualité et à la proximité immédiate du centre de Sibiu (environ 10 minutes à pied). Nous y retournerons avec plaisir lors d'un futur séjour. »

« Ous stay in Cetatea medievala let us some regrets because we came very late, around eleven o'clock, and with disturbing questions about our trip, on next day, to Balea lake with the promise of a sudden change of weather and the necessity to find a taxi to drive us there. Consequently, we did not enjoy enough this unusual large room offering luxurious furniture, a tub -that we could not use because of the lack of time-, free access to drinks, all of this for a very decent price. « Brand new hotel a good 20 minutes walk from the city center. Room was large enough and clean. Parking is free and breakfast was good. My wife complaint about the bed: she could not sleep well. Walls are paper thin and the following morning we could hear the German guy next doors conversation with a customer. »

![Decebalus is considered a national hero in Romania and has been portrayed in numerous literary works, movies, public sculptures, and other memorials.

The rock sculpture of Decebalus  (Romanian: Chipul regelui dac Decebal) is a 42.9 m (141 ft) in height and 31.6 m (104 ft) in width carving in rock of the face of Decebalus (r. AD 87–106), the last king of Dacia, who fought against the Roman emperors Domitian and Trajan to preserve the independence of his country, which corresponded to modern Romania.
The sculpture was made between 1994 and 2004, on a rocky outcrop on the river Danube, at the Iron Gates, which form the border between Romania and Serbia. It is located near the city of Orșova in Romania.
It is the tallest rock relief in Europe.

The project of sculpting the colossal head of Decebalus was the brainchild of a wealthy Romanian businessman, Iosif Constantin Drăgan. In 1985, Drăgan chose the rock to be sculpted, an outcrop 128m in height located in the area of Iron Gorge, Danube. Perhaps one of the reasons Drăgan chose this site was due to the fact that the Tabula Traiana, a memorial to the Roman conquest of Dacia, was located on the opposite side of the river. 
After the sculpture was completed Latin inscription was put beneath it and is: DECEBALUS REX DRAGAN FECIT,  which meant “King Decebalus, made by Dragan”.
The best photographs are made while cruising if you are visiting from serbian side or from a bridge if you are already in Romania.
