The hotel was perfect. Walking distance to park entrance. The hotel staff was very friendly and always helpful. (Forgot my mobile charger and they gave me one for the whole stay) Especially Joanna (English speaking) helped us a lot with transfers etc. The breakfast is a good mix of western and Chinese food. We also ordered food for room service, it was very good. The check-in service was quick, easy and welcoming. The food and beverage service is below par - the staff are do not manage well when there are lots of tourist groups, there is a lack of direction and experience for staff, when handling big crowds. Breakfast time is hectic without allocated seats, food is not replenished quickly enough whilst some guests are allowed to take multiple plates and take food away for later (!). The food is also not good quality either. Room service menu is limited and we had no drinks list provided. Swimming pool and changing rooms were not clean nor open on time. More of a 3 star hotel which is disappointing for an IHG hotel. Bed and room comfortable and quiet. Locality is at the Zhangjiajie TianZhiShan entrance about 5 mins by car. Parking is free and easy. Walking to the main street is about 5 mins where u can find food and to do some shopping. If you wish to have a easy way to tour zhangjiajie park with little walking, we did it by parking our car at the basement car park at the tianzhishan entrance. Paid the entrance fee of 228 yuan per head, take their shuttle bus to the cable car (72 yuan per haed) station up to tianzhishan, spectacular view. From there take the connecting shuttle bus to He Long park where there is a McDonalds and more sight seeing. Connecting again by bus provided to tian xie di yi qiao and skip the sight seeing there if u are not energetic, instead ask for direction and a 5 min-walk to take the bai long tian ti (lift costs 65 yuan) down to base station, at the base of the lift, take the shuttle bus again back to the tian zhi shan entrance where the car was parked. All in all u need about 5 hours. In this sense, the hotel is central to the planned activities. U may also drive up to another xin mu kang park entrance westward and the drive is scenic and relaxing, it's free as u are not entering the park. It's a 1 hour leisure drive. We enjoyed our stay in Crown plaza and it's very restful. Location is great. It takes just about 10-minute walk to the entrance of the national park, and about 40-minute ride to the airport. The room is spacious, clean and the bed is comfortable. The air-conditioner works as expected (in contrast to other self-claimed 5-star hotels in Zhangjiajie city). The surrounding environment is quiet, but the bustling area is not far away. The local version of ‘Phoenix City’ is within 15-minute walking distance. The breakfast is great with lots of variety. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. Looks like there is a big mall under construction right across the street - will be interesting to see in a few years. The hotel itself is very nice, feels like it is less than 2 years old, but not busy at all. For the size of the rooms prices are reasonable. Good western food in the restaurant, go into town if you want local/Chinese food. Indoor pool looked really nice, but we didn't have time to try it our. Only complaint is regarding the room cleaning. Hotel is clean and modern looking. Hotel staff is not very helpful. There is 1-2 staff members that speak limited English, but enough to get by. There’s a definite need for improvement in the customer service department. They couldn’t provide a map of the National Park, I had to find one on my own. I asked the hotel staff for a taxi, they asked me to wait as one was coming. Waited 15 mins, I decided to get one myself off the street. The worst part of it all was when my flight was canceled and needed to make a local call at the front desk. They told me they cannot help me. A guest at the hotel offered to lend me their mobile phone to make a local call as I didn’t have local SIM card. I travel a lot and normally stay at SPG/Marriott properties. This was the first time staying at the Crowne Plaza and didn’t expect to experience such horrible service as this was one of the higher priced hotels in the area.
