Gunn house is incredible place to get a blast from the past. It's a short drive to Yosemite national Park and ski resorts. Great local food, winery's and shopping. Highly recommend this house for a stay.

Don’t stay here
Fire place in room you can’t use, power went out on a freezing cold night so we left and told the front desk we wanted a refund they said contact hotels.com. I did and they are refusing to refund me. Do not recommend.

Disappointed expected more.
The rooms are decorated in an old fashion style with too many little figurines, pillows, teddy bears etc.. that makes the room cluttered. There was no place to put any of your stuff. No housekeeping and the trash containers around the property were not emptied and overflowing. Quality of amenities in bathroom were poor quality. Stairs to the breakfast room were so steep and had no handrails. Breakfast was underwhelming.

Would like to see some further renovation of the property. There were water stains above the shower and some old plastering on the bathroom ceiling. Somewhat musty odor in the room when we first checked in. No water glasses in the room.

Definitely shouldn't be paying 175 a night they charge us $25 to check in early instead of checking in at 3:00 the breakfast was good lost power didn't have any generator pitch black nothing to do would definitely not stay there again asked if I could get my $25 back since there was no power in they didn't we're not willing to work with anything nasty old carpet by now they should have had hardwood floors in the whole place definitely never do it again

This place really needs a big remodel and improvement. The outside looks really historic and nice. The room sucks! I hate it. I may never stay here again. Glad I came out alive.

Very old property as listed. Property is on a hill and if on the 3rd floor as we were, you need to be in good physical condition. Parking in the rear was difficult for motorcycles.

Dirty dump
This place should be condemned or sold to owners who care enough to restore it to its former glory. It was once a hospital (we were told) which explains the hauntings. It's dank, filthy, and not worth the money. I had about 3 hours of restless sleep in room 4. Do not waste your money even if you want to be scared by a ghost. You put your health at risk staying here it's THAT bad!

While quaint and historic, you can still provide a clean room. There were spider webs under tables and dusty areas that hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. It needed to be deep cleaned. We were on the parking lots side and it was quite noisy. Breakfast was marginal but probably average for this price point.

The bathroom was dirty. There were pee stains on the toilet and hair in the bathtub. I had to clean the toilet. I told the front desk about it he was nice but he didn’t apologize and somewhat blamed cleaning people about it which I later learn he’s the one to cleans the rooms after you check out. He cleaned the bathroom and I used cleaning wipes to clean the rest of the room. Breakfast they make eggs. I’m not the wasteful type but they were inedible I had to thrown mine’s away. Coffee was bad too like how can you mess up coffee! I ask for toilet paper and the front desk ask why ask if I’m checking out that day very rude. This place got a lot of history it’s a gem and we love staying at historical hotels/motels but this one needs a lot of love like a lot. People who manages this place need to see what they have and really take care of it. They’re nice people they’re just not good for hotel business.

Nothing too extravagant but it was still a cozy stay. I enjoyed spotting the original parts of the hotel such as the doorknobs and overall look of the room was nice if you are into older looks. Wifi was horrible and breakfast was mediocre. For the price, I would stay here again.

We arrived late. We called and it took several calls for anyone to answer. To be respectful we wanted to give the front desk a heads up that we would be arriving on the later side. They had a big problem with this. I found this very irritating. I think it would be helpful for guests if there was a box with a code where we could self check-in and grab our room key. Our room was prepaid online prior to arriving. We were given no direction to where about our room location was. It was a bit challenging to find. When we arrived the main light switch wasn't working. The bathroom was dirty with hair and dead flies on the floor. The sink was cracked and there wasn't even a fresh roll of toilet paper available. The entire property smells like tobacco. Early in the morning there was a guy working outside our room. He was using tools that were loud and very and not peaceful. He apologized and told us that NO ONE was suppose to be staying in this room. When we left there was no one in the lobby/check-in/check-out area to talk too. I left me key after 15 minutes and left. I would never stay there again. Overall, the lack of keeping a place clean is unacceptable.

Not many good options in Sonora and this is one of them. Building is old and can be charming or musty and run down depending on your perspective. Plumbing is bad. Most rooms are musty. If your neighbors are rude and loud, the thin walls won’t keep the noise out. Probably won’t go back, but slim pickings in Sonora, so might end up in a rotation of crappy hotels.

A couple issues
The sheet either had a stain (blood) or had not been changed. If it was a stain, they should get rid of them and use new sheets. No forks out at breakfast. No juice cups. Waffle batter ran out. Despite these couple things, we enjoyed our stay here. It is an old, but charming property and the gal at the reception desk was very nice.

This was a beautiful old building built in the mid-1860s excellent condition very well-maintained nice and clean. They kept all the nice little accent pieces to the building. It was just gorgeous.
