Booked this hotel for a family trip to York. Picked this hotel mainly due to the family swimming pool (which was good for younger kids) Would only advise booking this hotel if you like nursing home temperatures though. We had to phone reception at 01.30am due to it being ridiculously hot in our room and the rooms not having air con and the fans blowing hot even when on the cold setting. None of us could sleep. The night staff did bring us 2 random fans eventually after searching empty rooms which helped but we still had a pretty uncomfortable night. All corridors and dining area were really warm too and this was mid April so I’d hate to see what it would be like in summer. Parking is £7 for 24 hours which seems good for York. Reception staff were friendly. Breakfast was nice.

The toilet didn’t flush well and facilities a little old but the staff were excellent and the value for money was great, room was very spacious and the breakfast was great!

Overall a good stay. Nice friendly staff. Hotel is dated and that’s not normally a problem but the night rate was extremely high. Not sure I would book again due to price.

Reasonable distance from York town centre. Didn’t take too long to get an Uber into town. Nice and clean, rooms are lovely, it would have been nice to have been shown or told about the gym/swim facilities as I wasn’t told.

Great place to stay near the city centre, only 10 minutes by bus into the city centre. Spacious areas, rather small odd shape swimming pool, but had a spacious jacuzzi for many, steam room, and Sauna to finish the days. this seems to be a family-friendly hotel so you might bump into a very noisy place, where it is hard to relax. The food at the restaurant was good and the atmosphere was great.

While this was a nice hotel - with a lovely gym/pool - be very careful when booking your room. The so-called 'deluxe' room is anything but. When we realised this on arrival, we asked to pay to upgrade to a bigger/better room but the price we were quoted was 4x that as if we'd just booked the better room on Expedia. We called Expedia but the hotel wouldn't let them allow us to either a) pay the extra for the better room or b) cancel this booking and rebook the better room. So basically we faced the option of either staying in a very poor and small 'deluxe' room or paying 4x the correct price to upgrade. As you can imagine, that somewhat spoiled the trip.

We had a room at the front with scaffolding outside and a window which wouldnt close properly. It flew open during the storm and was draughty. The next day our room had not been cleaned by 4pm so had to ask. Only plug in heaters, bathroom unheated and shower controls impossible to reach around the screen. I doubt we will stay again. Shame because location is good.

Hotel is ageing and in need of some investment and modernisation. Water is only slightly warm and the heating does not work. I asked twice for this to be looked into but to no positive result. Upon check out I overheard another guest reporting that at least three of his party had the same issues.

Cold stay
On arrival we had a quick and prompt check in.. the room we were allocated (room 200) was really cold. There was a plugin radiator already in the room and we had to request another. There wasn’t any heating other than that in the room. It was a cold night sleep as I didn’t want to leave them plugged in why we split, fire hazard. The breakfast we paid extra for was worth every penny this kind of made up for being cold for our stay. We didn’t get to use the spa facilities as these were busy. We would stay again, but would request a room with heating other than plug in radiators. Best part of our stay was the breakfast, credit to the chef and breakfast staff.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay, lovely hotel and in a perfect location- so easy to walk, bus ride or taxi into York city centre. The staff were polite and helpful, and the breakfast was lovely. However, I booked it thinking it would be a relaxing spa getaway and the pool was just full of young children splashing, which was disappointing.

Lovely stay, staff were very good, we had some drinks at the bar for our son's 21st birthfah and they gave him a very nice surprise. Pool and gym were very good, clean hotel, great breakfast, easy car park, wonderful views over the race course. Room a little noisy but we'll definitely be back

Fabulous hotel
Absolutely lovely hotel room 318 fabulous suite, very clean an peaceful, food was spot on staff cant do enough for you!! Very good value for money. The pool area let it down not whats its like on pics The lady elena on reception was lovely an scouse tony who works on the bar both really helpful Can i just say this hotel has NOT got smackheads outside as another guest has stated 🤔 Overall lovely hotel we really enjoyed it lovely veiw of the racecourse from our room

When booking a 4 star hotel you expect it to be a treat but unfortunately the hotel is very run down especially the spa/pool areas and the changing room facilities. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel or return to it unless it had a revamp. That said the location, staff and breakfast were faultless.

Whilst the staff very efficient at breakfast and food was good, we never had extra towels we had on night 1 of 3 replaced and didn't want to wait an hour each night for more to arrive if requested again after long days out with family, towels were small too. (surely just provide more towels when you ask for them on the first night and keep a note of it), the pool was closed the first 24 hrs with no advance warning, and the bed itself was very lumpy, springy and uncomfortable with a dip in the middle. Good for convenience for Christmas close to family and town, but cracking backache every morning. Also as a dairy free person, whilst there was oat milk available in a small jug upon request they did not have any dairy free yoghurt or other options which was disappointing even after I gave them advance notice weeks before, don't think there was much available for vegans either.

Old, dilapidated and unloved rooms. Heating of rooms is inadequate and the rooms are styled still from 1980s. Photos do not convey the low standards of the hotel rooms. Not worth the money at all.
