The hosts are extremely helpful, and offer transportation to/from ski rentals, slopes, restaurants, and hot spring/onsen for bathing. The host gave us recommendations for dining and we felt like we were at a 5-star resort with no worries. Very cozey stay for those seeking and enjoyable adventure to Zao Onsen. The room itself was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The lodge is dated but acceptable. Note that you will need the owner to drive you around during winter seasons as it is near impossible to walk up the icy/snowy hills to reach the lodge. This can be inconvenient as he is the sole driver so you may need to wait for the driver to return from an earlier trip. Also note that there is no on-site shower. However the owner will drive you to a nearby hotel with onsen to bathe. The onsen was nice and relaxing.
