Good but nothing special
Comfortable rooms decent location but is a little old in places now so condition isn’t amazing. Service was ok although they charged me twice for a deposit as they kept telling me the transaction wouldn’t go through. But English skills was good enough to help when I complained. I’m sure it’s a 1 off event.

Nice, relatively close to airport.
Arrived late, easy fast check in. Plenty of treadmills and a nice pool. Didn’t try the rental workout gear option but may on my next stay to eliminate traveling with wet workout clothes.

Hi, 1. the receptionist wasn't able to find my bookings; 2. one of the male receptionists wasn't able to understand when I wanted to book the hotel limousine to the airport. it is these simple things that may frustrate the guest especially when the guest was in a hurry. Other than the above, overall is quite good.

A very impressive large hotel with a very accommodating staff. All front desk staff spoke English. Everything is huge. Huge hallways, huge lobby, huge guest rooms, large TV and a very large bathroom with a tub and a verg large separate shower. The breakfast was very impressive with all the usual traditiional offerings, but also an overabundance of Chinese selections. Again, a huge breakfast variety. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Nice hotel, evidence of heavy use found everywhere. However, they do their best to keep it looking nice. Breakfast buffet on 2nd floor has a pretty good variety of items to enjoy.

Really the best place on Xiamen . an impressive business venue with fantastic staff . Bill was outstanding in his helpfulness and Mandy most helpful too. Good Gym and pool as you would expect with a Westin . Must try the Executive Floor next time . The hospitality and facilities looked fab, including a impressive board room for meetings..

A/C in the room was noisy. Apparently they control the temperature in the room no matter what shows on the panel and it gets really warm in the evening. Room was smelly even it's a non smoking room. Had to complain so we changed to another room. Happy Hour at the excutive lounge on 40th floor was average, the staff was cold not helpful. Breakfast buffet on 2nd floor was surprisingly bad that it felt like it wasn't run by the hotel, chefs and waiters were rude and sloppy, they clearly don't understand how to work in western hotel. Utensils were sticky too!

Room with a view.
We needed a night in Xiamen before flying home. The hotel was good and it was not far from the international airport. Room was adequate. Location was not ideal for sight seeing. On the 20th floor, we had a good view all the way to the horizon.

Did not have nice experience at Westin Xiamen
We booked for a premier room, which is a grade higher than their cheapest deluxe room, and the reason being seeing the picture on the booking website that premier room is a much bigger room in size. When we arrived, we were a bit disappointed that the room was in fact very small. When I told the reception in the morning, they simply apologised and said we were in the correct room type and that the pictures on the web that we saw probably was not correct. This was not the worst part, the worst was when we checked out, the reception said they have to charge us extra for special cleaning service for their bedsheets. I did notice that my new black nightdress somehow stained a patch of the bedsheets to a light greyish colour. As the bedsheets in hotels were white, it should quite easily come off by using bleach. Although I did feel sorry about making the stains, but since it was not purposefully, I really wouldn't expect to be charged 20% of one night's room rate for the cleaning fee. The incident surely ruined my mood for the whole day, and originally a nice trip to Xiamen.

These rooms feature a neutral palette with warm red woods and striking prints of exotic flowers. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in natural light and capture uplifting views of the city or Yundang Lake. We apologize that your assigned room for your stay was not per your expectations and you would preferred a guest room in a bigger size. The hotel is beautiful and well maintained but they wouldn't allow us to charge our massage bill to our room because they said we used the hotel.com website. I find this weird because they allowed food charges to be billed to our room. Not a big deal but better if they sorted this out.

I originally booked at Yiho Huli, a Chinese hotel recommended by Expedia, at half the price of the Westin. Only problem was that I don't speak Chinese, and no one there spoke any English. After problems with checking in, the initial room I got had a broken toilet. When it proved impossible to get a taxi (even though the hotel had taxi cards), I checked out and moved to the Westin. The Westin met all the expectations of a top class hotel. More importantly, Xiamen is not Shanghai or Beijing, and very little English is spoken anywhere - no tourist maps either - thus the Westin , and its English-speaking staff, was a godsend. Expedia might want to consider this when recommending hotels, especially for tourists (but in this case for anyone not fluent in Chinese). Xiamen is a wonderful place, and the Westin a great hotel, which also facilitated a great holiday despite the language barrier.

Front desk staff lack training and supervision
Checking in process was a nightmare, as we waited to see the front desk staff who seemed to receive ones got closest to them and ignore the ones waiting in line. We were later interrupted and surrounded by unruly hotel guests. Front desk staff didn't intervene, as they either didn't know what to do or didn't feel it was their business and responsibility on the hotel premise. Supervisor next to them didn't seem to care what was going on and ignored our complaint, and let her inexperience staff act on their own. Guests were forced to go in and out the vast lobby through the only door, the revolving front one. The back entrance and business center were locked during business hours and no explanation was given. The usual greetings and smiles disappeared during the evening hours, as the bell boy and girl standing inside the revolving door stared at you and sized you up, another sign of lacking training and supervision. In general you get a world class hotel feel but when it comes to professionalism of staff, you are reminded of a third world country, and local standards prevail. In the event of emergency, it's hard to imagine getting out safe from the revolving front door (assuming electricity is still there to operated it).

I think this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in China only down side is that sometimes it is hard to get a taxi from.
