Unfortunately power was out in Swellendam during our stay (of course not their fault) but generator was kept on only for short periods of time. Otherwise, beautiful property gardens, pool, and luxurious accommodations.

Power outages are countrywide and we do offer generator and inroom back up lights You must imagine that we have to save generator for the long double evenings stage 6 in order not to leave guest into the dark and that when during day time between checkin checkout times no need for generator as all guests are out , we are small scale boutique estate

Hotel is nice but certainly not 5 star luxury. Staff were in the large part helpful other than in check in when we were informed we could only eat dinner at a certain time despite the restaurant not being overly busy. Also rather worryingly in one of the bath robes we discovered the underwear of a previous guest. When we complained no offer of compensation/ good will gesture was made....

Gardeb route stop off
Staff on arrival were not overly friendly. We were informed if we wished to stay for dinner we needed to let them know our food order by 4pm. Then when we requested to eat at 7.30pm we were told we could only have a table at 7pm. This was despite there being a table for each of the 7 rooms so a little odd... The staff on checkout were a lot more friendly and accommodating to our requests for breakfast etc.

Special Find
We had a lovely short stay at this quaint estate property. We were greeted with enthusiasm and the entire stay was equally as well serviced. We had dinner and then breakfast in the morning. The dinner was absolutely delicious...beautifully prepared. The breakfast was so abundant that we struggled making choices. The service was impeccable and the staff was delightful. We did not use the swimming pool or spa services. It was a bit cool for swimming and we did not have time to take advantage of the spa. The decor in this older estate has a contemporary African twist with numerous African crafts and artwork adorning the walls. It was most pleasant and I highly recommend it.

A sad experience in a beautiful place
This is a very nice boutique hotel. Our overnight might have been perfect but for a very disappointing arrival, having to change room because faulty heating. When I left a comment about less than adequate arrival, management was offended and responded with lots a baloney. That eliminated any positive view I otherwise would have had of this expensive place.

The hotel is in operation for more than 16 years and being hoteliers in the service industry our main goal is to keep our services to our guests and standards to the highest level at all times and this is constantly monitored. prior to any guest arrival all guestrooms are always prepared and checked. The AC is the guest room function properly in the afternoon. It has shown that equipment may suddenly fail without given notice unfortunately ( in this case the gas of the ac did run low) and we only noticed upon checkin /arrival of guest into their room around 17:30-18:00 hrs our dedicated staff were not able to get a handyman so quickly in ( after working hours ) and therefor the duty manager of the hotel -after an apology for inconvenience -found the solution to upgrade the guest to the best suite of the estate- the honeymoon suite which guest accepted ! Its a real pity that such issue which is also beyond our control and can do happen -which was solved in the best possible way and which was professionally handled by our staff -results in a negative impact to the overall experience of the guests stay If there is an issue we solve that on hotels ground - which was the case here-

Nothing but praise
Great location. Just up from the main street in a lovely area and beautiful hotel grounds.We had a great check in and offer of an upgrade which frankly we did not need as the room we had booked was lovely. . The buildings are full of character and very well modernised. The Team Members were very helpful for all our needs and they clean your car every day! Nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant for breakfast and Dinner served very fine food and plenty of it. A nice bar with not quite a hundred gins!Great attention to detail to make your stay a great experience. This was one of seven hotels during our visit and whilst I would not want to put any at the top of the list we would stay here again for sure.

Thank you for your review. As it unfortunate that you wrote it anonymously we do not know in which room you may have stayed...... De Kloof is a unique historical estate dating from 1801 and a preserved national monument with several outbuildings restored under guidance from heritage council to the highest possible level. We offer charm and not slick new design Therefor maintenance is high on our list and is an ongoing process throughout the year. Please do come visit us again !

Our evening meals are served in the Restaurant 18 ZeroOne with lots of dedication on behalf of our inhouse chef who only serves local fresh produces and all South african best quality ingredients. 3 course a la carte meals are started with a one /two amuses and followed by selection of bread plate with oils and dips and after 3 course meal ends with coffee and tea incl at price ZR 395 per head, Hope we may welcome you again and please let us know so your stay will exceed your expectations

A relaxing and luxurious stay in wine country
De Kloof Luxury Estate was true to its name - a luxurious stay indeed! The lady at the reception was very courteous when we arrived and offered us a free upgrade (from the Deluxe room) to the Manor Suite since we were on our honeymoon. The suite was huge including a nice jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. We also used the spa during our stay and the spa experience was really good. Both of us loved our massages which helped us relax a lot in between our hectic travel schedule. The breakfast was also pretty decent given that we are vegetarian.

Perfect Tranquil setting for a relaxing stay
We were greeted by the most incredible, efficient and friendly staff we have ever experienced. Our 2 night stay continued to improve as we were served a delicious dinner by the fireside and then a very sumptuous breakfast outside on the porch!

Elegant and sophisticated boutique hotel estate
We had a lovely one night stay att DeKloof. The boutique hotel is set in an 1801 buildings and has been lovingly and sympathetically restored by the current owners. It is in an old historic area of town with lovely walks to view other old houses and cottage gardens. The nature reserve was also special. We really enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast. There was only small negative was with the wifi, which was a bit hit and miss, but we were happy to do without it to enjoy the ambience of the estate. We will return on another trip to South Africa.

Such a beautiful boutique Hotel
Set at the back of Swellendam, just a short walk from the old town, this Hotel is simple, elegant and peaceful (apart from the geese occasionally!). The pool is wonderful, perfect temperature and offers huge cushions which you can float on peacefully. There is pool service via a bell and we tried the Cheese Platter with Wine which was gorgeous and served promptly with a smile. Our room was awesome! A huge water bed, double Jacuzzi bath and twin showers and basins, we giggled our way through the tour round, waiting to jump on the bed and see if we got sea sick! We ate there in the evening, tired after a long journey and had great food, good service and good wine. I recommend it!

Pleasant surprise

Modernised Dutch Farm in parkland setting
Staff exceeded expectations to make us comfortable. Their waterbed in their stunning Pinot Noir suite gave us a sound night's sleep. There were many antique items of furniture. Breakfast and dinner were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The staff made a point of ensuring that the contents of the meals were to our liking. The lounge and pool areas were comfortably appointed. Interesting publications about the South African environment were freely available. They stocked first class wines. We particularly enjoyed the 2013 Esona red wine. A visit to the Drostdy Museum is a must.

Wonderful stay at the De Kloof Luxury Estate. Room was luxurious with a large bathroom. Every amenity you could want. Lovely grounds. Delicious breakfast that was included. And helpful and gracious management. Would recommend highly.

I booked through hotels.com and the information that was supplied about the room I booked was totally contradictory to the room I've received even after confirming my booking beforehand with the hotel. The room was a loft with only the main door and windows in the bathroom causing natural light to come in. I'm not a tall man and I even felt claustrophobic by staying there the first night. The staff though was friendly and helpful and I was allowed to be moved to another room the next day, which was spacious and luxurious. I also requested to receive breakfast in my room during my stay which I appreciated greatly as breakfast are only served in the restaurant. During the second day of my stay in the new room I was left without water pressure as the geyser was repaired by a plumber without notification at all and the last day I had no hot water at all to take a shower. The spa treatments were amazing, but I would suggest that the spa room be darkened and under floor heating or heated bed be introduced for a far more tranquil experience. Another small note of suggestion would be to give farm jam at breakfast and not jam out of a tin. A five star hotel should present the best to its clients without half measures. Would I stay there again... definitely.

Used as 1 night stopover between Plett and CapeTown. For that purpose it was fine. Old property from early 1800's, refurbed recently. The intern guy on reception was v good showing all aspects of the hotel. We apparently got an upgrade to a room that included a waterbed (!) - most uncomfortable nights sleep in a long time so avoid 'Pinot Noir' room. Overall clean and interesting property, even though the female receptionist completely ignored us as though we were not supposed to be there...

We stayed here a night between Knysna and Cape Town, and really enjoyed the property, intimacy and boutique feel of the rooms. The dinner was excellent, as was breakfast. We had a massage in the Spa too, which was very good. if you want to treat yourself to a beautiful and historical estate, updated with modern touches and luxuries, this is it. The town is also very nice to walk about and shop and east. The staff and owners are very gracious and professional too...

A wonderful boutique hotel
Wonderful boutique hotel on the fringe of Swellendam is an ideal stop off between Cape Town and the Garden Route. Recently refurbished to exquisite standards the building remains an historic monument which is a pleasure on the eye. The staff are extremely hospitable and very helpful, too.

Great hotel in a beautiful setting. We were given a choice of rooms. Both absolutely beautiful.The only slight problem if you have lots of appliance to charge is it could do with more plug points. Small price to pay for an excellent hotel.

Spent one night at De Kloof, would loved to stay longer. Hotel, room staff and room were all fantastic. Enjoyed a great and very luxurious breakfast. As it was low season, and there were free rooms we were given an upgrade free of charge. Would have loved to stay longer.

On first visit - very hot and pool inviting and clean. Room excellent and food well beyond expectations. The staff were also extremely helpful and obliging On second visit - we were upgraded and again excellent room and food. Unfortunately adverse weather conditions had meant pool unusable but staff again assisted excellently

We stayed two nights and enjoyed both nights. The service was very personal and pleasing. Breakfast and dinner were both of high standard. Nice grounds with flowers everywhere and pleasant to relax by the pool. Our bedroom was spacious and the bathroom had a walk in shower, bath with candles and a his and hers washbasin. We thought it a tad expensive overall but very pleasant to be pampered so.

A stunning and wonderful place to Stay
This was the nicest of all the hotels we stayed in. The minute we arrived we were treated so well. Any stress we had just drained away in an instant. The attention to detail was spot on. The comfort of the rooms was superb . best nights sleep on the whole trip. The food and wine was first class. If we'd known in advance how delightful this place was we would have stayed longer. A gem of a find and I would not hesitate in recommening De Kloof
