From the moment you come through the front door of our upstairs Crow's Nest CAUTION if you, or anyone in your party, smokes do not book this property .2 bedroom apartment which is part of Captain Alexandra‘s Hideaway. Captain Alexander's vacation rentals offers a totally smoke free environment if you or any of your guests smoke please do not book your vacation with the Captain. Our small resort consists of only 3 units. Besides this 2 bedroom we have a 3 bedroom, Crew’s Quarters, on the first floor and the Captains Quarters efficiency with its private courtyard. . Each unit at Captain Alexanders Hideaway, has its own private yard and assigned parking. At the Crow’s Nest you will find central airconditioning a living room with 2 sofa recliners which beckons you to relax but the kitchen comes equipped with an electric cook top and wall oven. In the private yard you will find a Weber gas grill and an outside shower with hot and cold water so when returning from the beach you can leave all the sand outside. There is also a patio with table and chairs. And when it is time to call it a night the back bedroom has a queen size bed and the front bedroom has 2 brand new singles as of Aug 2021\. At Captain Alexanders you can pickup all your emails as we provide high speed wireless internet. My wife Ruth and I have been in the vacation rental business for over 30 years. So we know just what you would like on your vacation. And we deliver one of the cleanest well maintained homes on Cape Cod. Just remember this is a smoke free home there is no smoking on the property. If you smoke you will be asked to leave, no questions asked. We never give out our homes to any realtor you deal with the owners directly and we stand up infront of our homes. You can talk with Us as we know the Cape and as a young boy my family has been vacationing on Old Cape Cod since 1957 when Jodi's Pizza and the go-carts first opened, and the old camp ground was the in place to rent with all the teenagers, along with Thompson's Clam Bar. Important information if you elect not to take VRBO‘s trip protection insurance we require a $500 refundable security deposit before your arrival. We will be in touch with you as to how to make that deposit. We are pet friendly, but we do require a $200 pet fee. Also pets cannot be more than 25 pounds in the crows nest. Captain Alexanders Home is only 3 tenths of a mile to the warm waters of Nantucket Sound and the Harwich Beaches. Our two bedroom home is fully Air conditioned. If you did not elect to take VRBO trip protection we will need a refundable security deposit of $500.00 Do you like cooking on vacation? Probably not. At Captain Alexander’s you will find top quality cookware a good selection of stainless steel and non-stick frying pans. The captain enjoys cooking and his first mate is a mixture of French and Italian so you know she enjoy cooking. You will not be disappointed with the top quality utensils and flatware provided here a Captain Alexander’s. We ourselves when traveling have been very disappointed in the kitchens in the various rental properties that we have stayed in over the years so therefore we are very meticulous about what we provide. Our Non Smoking air conditioned home has all the ingredients for a super vacation on Cape Cod. Captain Alexanders Hideaway is not for smokers as there is no smoking on the property.. For your security and safety, security cameras are used on the exterior of the property. A full laundry with front load washer. We are well within walking distance to Earle Street Beach and only one mile to Harwichport. Conveniently located midway between Cape Cod Canal and Provincetown,Captain Alexander's is central to all the Cape has to offer. A short bike ride to Cape Cod Rail Trail (Bike Trail through the towns of Cape Cod), 2.5 miles to Long Pond (Cape Cod's largest swimming and boating lake), 1.5 miles to award winning Cranberry Valley Golf Course, central to shopping, major highway, theater,(Harwich JR. Theater 1 mile), art galleries, excellent restaurants, hiking, tennis and ocean beaches. Only minutes to the Nantucket Ferry (Harwich Port) and Martha's Vineyard Ferry (Hyannis) is nearby. So come to Old Cape Cod and find one of the best vacation homes in Harwich and the Port. WHY SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED AT CAPTAIN ALEXANDER'S HIDEAWAY 1\. Smoking is one of the main causes of preventable death worldwide. 2\. Smoking around others does not show love. Those who are routinely subjected to secondhand smoke are at higher risk of some of the same diseases that smokers often suffer from. 3\. The World Health Organization estimates that every year, about six million people die of diseases related to the use of tobacco, including over 600,000 nonsmokers affected by secondhand smoke. Consider how tobacco affects the health of those who use it and the health of others around them. 4\. Cancer. Tobacco smoke contains over 50 carcinogenic chemicals. The Encyclopædia Britannica states that tobacco smoke is “believed to account for 90 percent of all cases of lung cancer.” Tobacco smoke can cause cancer in other organs, including the mouth, trachea, esophagus, throat, larynx, liver, pancreas, and bladder. Respiratory diseases. Tobacco smoke increases the chances of respiratory ailments such as pneumonia and influenza. Children who regularly inhale secondhand smoke are more prone to suffer from asthma, chronic cough, and reduced lung growth and function. Heart disease. Smokers are at greater risk of suffering a stroke or developing heart disease. Carbon monoxide present in tobacco smoke easily passes from the lungs to the bloodstream, where it displaces oxygen. Beautiful little neighborhood. Everything you need in the kitchen. Central air which is fabulous and comfortable beds. Huge flat-screen TV which the kids used mostly at night after being at the beach all day. Easy walking distance to the beach which my teenager was able to walk to in the early morning. Easy access to other parts of the Cape. Hosts graciously greeted us on arrival and answered any questions we may have had. The owners thought of everything and have maintained a very clean place. The keypad door code made it easy to check in and check out. Washer and dryer were very useful to have. The following were well equipped and had everything we needed, and more! - 1) kitchen 2) beach related items 3) bbq related items 4) information on what to do and where to eat, and more! And those reclining couches and massage chair in the living room were a hit with everyone! The beach is a 5 min walk along a shaded road. There's a convenient outdoor shower in the yard to wash off sandy feet before entering the house. The house is near the charming Harwich town with a great variety of restaurants, shops and cafes along Main Street. (J Bar for healthy salads & smoothies, Perks for late night drinks, Embre Coal Fire Pizza, Cape Roots Market & Cafe (they serve Snowy Owl coffee!) It was immaculate when we got there. The rooms were big and the living room was very comfortable. We were so close to the beach you could walk, and so many restaurants. We brought our dog, and there is a public park about a mile away --Sea View Park--which has walking trails and a playground and tennis courts. Lots of shopping, restaurants, everything close by. Lovely area. The property was very clean. It is an apartment, so you will be hearing other people on property. Also has a small yard which is nice. Sep 30, 2014 #### First trip to the Cape... will not be our last To say that we loved it at the Captain Alexander's would be an understatement! I would have to say that it was one of the best places that we have ever stayed at. The 2 BR apartment was perfect for us. It was spacious and though the kitchen was small, it was perfect for what we needed. It was just what we needed to relax and unwind from all the craziness. Being so close to the beach and the water just added to aura of the place and we managed to go done to walk along the water nearly every day that wee were there. The bike trail was just as beautiful and inviting, and we took full advantage of it as well. The trail is so peaceful as it winds it way through the wooded areas and past ponds and cranberry bogs. On a scale from 1-10, I would rate our experience at an 11+. We could not have asked for a better place to go to. Owner is very much on site, and you will see him often, daily. When I first checked in, the air was not working and I was told it was because the windows had been left open, the sun was coming hot and I had to shut the windows down and wait 24 hours for the air to reset. This was day # 3 of the heatwave. Perhaps the AC could have been set for my arrival. One afternoon I went down the back stairs to the "private area" attached to the apartment, to get in the outside shower and the owner was there. He was removing the water bottles from the recycling bin and putting them in the trash. I wasn't sure why he was in the Private back yard while I was there. The place is clean and tidy, Gerald and his wife are nice people, however, they should respect the privacy of the guests that are staying. ##### Nicolle L. The Crows Nest @ Captain Alexander's Hideaway was perfect for what we needed. We were in the Cape for a wedding, so we decided to make it a vacation as well. We searched everywhere for someone who was willing to rent us a place for 4 adults mid-week. No one would accommodate us except for Gerry and Ruth! The Crows Nest was CLEAN and had the perfect amount of room for 4 adults. We did not get the opportunity to hang out in the back yard, but from what I could see from the window, it needed to be straightened up a little (patio furniture cleaned, leaves picked up, etc). It is a quick walk to a small beach, and not far from shops, restaurants, and activities. There are no TVs in the bedrooms and it did not appear to have any cable for the TV in the living room, but they do have Apple TV set up so you can use your Netflix and such. The wifi came in handy as I just used my Ipad in the bedroom to help me sleep and my husband used his Xbox for nights that we were home. The kitchen came with everything needed to make a quick meal. It's close to great bakeries like Captain Baker's Donuts & Woolfies and restaurants like Brax landing, 3 Monkeys & Buca. We usually hit up Joey's for pizza. I wanted a place w/ kitchen space for potential meals due to COVID, 2 bedrooms for me & my 2 kids, and close to the beach. This place ticked all the boxes we were after (well except for a pool, but that was my kids "must have" not mine!) The beach at the end of Earle Rd. is small, but was perfect for us as it was a short 5 min walk and thus we didn't have to pay for parking. We lucked out w/ weather and were at beach daily, even the last day that was cooler, we went for s'mores & sunset. The outdoor shower was nice to rise off and back stair storage area had a spot for storing beach gear. There was some left by previous tenants, but we had brought our own. Gerry & Ruth happened to be staying downstairs during our stay, they were very nice when our paths crossed, which honestly wasn't that often. We opted to bring our own linens and pillows.The beds were surprisingly comfortable, the 2 twins my kids slept on had apparently been recently purchased. The bathroom is a little small, but has everything you need. The water pressure wasn't great, but the shower head has different settings, so we flipped it to stronger one. The kitchen is definitely a 1 cook kitchen. There is plenty of space in living room including a massage chair (big hit w/ kids) & a big 70in TV (it was never on during our stay). When we arrived and parked, a lady approached us really quickly and said that they were in middle of construction therefore we would have to park in the back of the property, which it was okay, When we arrived we were coming from the beach, 2 of us took a quick shower, less than 5 minutes each and we did not have anymore hot water… we did not say anything at that moment, just waited a few hours and the other 2 people took their showers. The next morning we did not think of it since some of us took a shower in the morning and the rest in the afternoon. Monday came and the construction workers woke us up at 8:00am not so good since we are on vacation and would love to sleep a little longer. We went to the beach that day, (the beach is 3 blocks away, so we walked there) we saw Gerry when leaving, once we are at the beach I realized I needed something we forgot in the house, so I walked back, when I get back to the property, I noticed the doors were open(I remember I locked up before going to the beach, When I went inside (Gerry) the owner was coming out of one of the bedrooms. He said he needed to update something in the binder that was in the living room. I did let him know that I was very uncomfortable with the whole situation. When I said that he asked me for the remote control and said that everything was a mess (my sons toys were on the floor) laundry was folded on the couch and one of the beds was not made, regardless that was my problem since I’m on vacation I don’t have to make the bed if I dont want to. But finding him in the property felt as a complete VIOLATION OF PRIVACY. When I asked why he was coming out of one of the bedrooms if he needed the binder that was on the living room,he apologized and left. Of course that ruined our day. When we came back that day again we had no more than 10 minutes of hot water and I had to take a shower with cold water I sent him a message and about an hour later he responded that he will turn up the water heaterfor next morning, Really?? I feel we paid a lot money for a 3 day get away for this poor service and most of all the VIOLATION of our PRiVaCY. We had a great stay at the Crow's Nest this weekend with my family (two adults, two kids). Jerry's communication up to and during our stay was top-notch, with lots of great recommendations of things to do and places to eat. The location can't be beat—walking distance to Earle Road beach and less than 2 miles from Harwichport and the cute shops (and ice cream at Sundae School). Central air and a massage chair were new improvements since our last stay in 2019\. My only "complaint" was that there isn't a lot of counter space in the kitchen for cooking at the house, but that just gave us more of an excuse to eat out. Thanks for a great stay! ##### Kate S.
