Bear Cub Cabin: An Enchanted Sanctuary

Adults-only cabin in West Burke
Need to unplug, unwind, and reconnect with nature? Perhaps a romantic getaway? Retreat to our 900 sq. ft. cabin nestled in 22 acres of the Northeast Kingdom's most magical forest. Wander the enchanted trails, dip your toes in Job's Pond, or take a short drive to scenic Lake Willoughby. Indoors, take in the natural views, relax in the meditation space, stargaze on the balcony, or just nap by the wood stove. Bear Cub invites you to breathe in and remember what inspires you. Bear Cub Cabin was almost entirely built by the loving hands of a skilled carpenter, and you can feel it in every detail. The open-concept design of Bear Cub Cabin incorporates a fully equipped kitchen with a center island and an exposed beam ceiling as well as a spacious living area. In the winter months, cozy up to the warm glow of the vintage woodstove, relax in the reading nook with the writings of Thoreau, or take a seat at the antique writing desk and let your pen follow your imagination back in time. The art and decor have been carefully selected to inspire and delight our guests, and include original woodcut prints and engravings from local artists as well as other whimsical touches and surprises. Follow the spiral staircase up to the loft bedroom and sink into the luxurious linens of the queen-sized captain's bed. Perhaps you'd like to start your mornings or end your days with quiet reflection time in the meditation space or venture out the French doors onto the balcony and listen to birds and the wind rustling the leaves. Bear Cub Cabin caters to natural views, so we haven't installed any digital screens. But we do provide onsite high-speed WiFi and a Bluetooth speaker for your enjoyment. When temperatures are cold, firewood is provided for your use of the woodstove, or simply adjust the thermostat to your preferred temperature to use the central gas heating. In addition to the queen size bed, the cabin can accommodate an extra person on the fold-out couch (though we don't recommend more than three adults). **A full-size 4-wheel drive vehicle is a must for snow and mud seasons. The last 3 miles of the trip to Bear Cub Cabin are a gravel road. The road and the driveways are well maintained and regularly snow plowed but can get tricky at times with snow and ice conditions. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. We will do our best to accommodate you!
Guest accommodations at this cabin offer hair dryers. Rooms open to balconies. Kitchens offer refrigerators, stovetops, and microwaves.

A Breath of Fresh Air
This cabin is literally a breath of fresh air. Set back in a wooded lot, the air smells like maple (or maybe that was my mind playing tricks on me) with a hint of wood smoke. Exactly like fall. We enjoyed sitting in the deck and just listening to the quiet. It was rejuvenating. The property is exactly as described: comfy, romantic, well stocked in kitchen wares, and a commune with nature. The property owner is kind and helpful. Overall, an A+ experience. I can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful wilderness retreat
We spent the week in this beautiful, tastefully furnished and comfortable cabin nestled in the woods. Surrounded by lakes and mountains, we could hear loons from the cabin and coyotes yipping at night! We kayaked and hiked every day. If you enjoy the outdoors and a peaceful, serene setting, you will love visiting this area! The bed was super comfortable with a foam mattress topper and lots of pillows. The cabin was well appointed with everything you could need: books and games, appliances and cooking utensils, even paper and colored pencils. The owners are super friendly and very accommodating. We would definitely come back!!

This bear cabin was a magical, mysterious place filled with many curiosities and secrets to be found and told! We enjoyed every moment inside the cabin and didn’t want to leave! It was so cozy and comfy and yet calming and soothing at the same time. It felt like it was made just for us and we can’t wait to go back. It is the perfect little weekend getaway cabin for you and your loved ones!
