The list goes on! My partner and I concluded ten days of travel around Sri Lanka at Eraeliya Villas and Gardens and we were blown away. The property is pristine, the gardens are spectacular and the villas and pools equally as beautiful. We stayed in the Ocean loft, a modern, airy and spacious loft with modern industrial decor with a Sri Lankan twist, it was nothing short of brilliant. The pool is sublime and looks out over a beautiful stretch of the Indian Ocean, with a private beach behind there’s no shortage of space to lounge and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Eraeliya’s staff go above and beyond to ensure your stay is comfortable and nothing short of perfect, their attentiveness and willingness to aid in anyway they can made this stay truly special. To top it off the food is great and there are plenty of options. The breakfast was particularly amazing and was something we looked forward to every day. The hotel is situated just outside of Weligama, it is a 15 minute tuktuk ride to the popular towns of Mirissa or Ahangama, where there is plenty to do of an evening if you wish to leave the property. But if you wish to stay you can also make use of the spectacular spa service to take your relaxation to the next level. We stayed 3 nights in the Muhuda Bella Villa and 2 in the main villa in the room called Alaya. The small villa is a bit tired and I feel as it's the furthest room from the main building it almost forgotten. But the main Villa is great the room we stayed in there was brilliant. The staff are really friendly and efficient. The food was great. The spa treatments we had were great. The wifi in the small villa was pretty much nonexistent. But the main villa it was fine. Beer is hard to come by which I couldn't understand why, as the hotel is full, they didn't have a huge stock of beer on hand. So a couple nights we could have more than 2 beers! So we went out and bought some, a 10mins tuktuk ride. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker und ausreichend. Aber für den Preis gab’s es zu wenig Auswahl. Der Pool und die Lage direkt am Meer sind ein Traum. Es waren alle sehr bemüht, dass wir uns wohl fühlen, es wurde auch ein Meet-Greet veranstaltet. Essen und Trinken ist relativ teuer, da noch 10% Service Charge und 31% Steuern hinzugefügt werden. Für ein 5-Sterne hatten die Handtücher leider immer wieder Flecken. Das WLAN war sehr schlecht und wir hatten des Öfteren nur sehr geringen Wasserdruck im Bad. Das Garden Loft ist für den Preis leider etwas klein. En revanche l’hôtel est isolé sans restaurant extérieur accessible à pied pour dîner. L’hôtelier profite de cette situation pour pratiquer des prix insensés sur la nourriture et les boissons (18$ un plat de pâtes). Les prix ont d’ailleurs presque doublés en un an! Les pâtes passant de 1800 roupies (8€) à 18$. C’est dommage et cela gâche un peu le séjour. Nous n’y avons pas dîner. Eraeliya is a truly boutique hotel. It was our last stop of a busy 5 week trip and the perfect place to unwind. Everything about the place exceeded our expectations, exuding quality and tasteful design. The owner (Anna) and staff (Julia, Jerome and...) are to be commended for their attention to detail. Expect to hear "yes" and "of course" often. Meals are prepared to order and served on one's own patio. Breakfast is extensive and the dinner choice is ample, delicious and reasonably priced. Alcohol is not served but is allowed, so guests can stock the minibar from the local wine store. Tick! Eraeliya is a short tuk tuk from town and other restaurants (try Akila's). We shared the gardens and trees with monkeys, iguanas and squirrels and went to sleep to the sound of rolling ocean waves. The Villas were incredibly decorated, and the entire grounds were beautiful. All the staff were so lovely and went the extra mile for any small request. The food was delicious - a short and sweet menu but each dish was fantastic. The breakfast spread was absolutely fantastic!! Lovely, lovely place, very peaceful. Food was lovely and very reasonably priced compared to the other (high end) hotels we stayed in in Sri Lanka, we had two dinners and one breakfast and everything was great. Unfortunately the service doesn't quite live up to the beauty of the property, or, more honestly, the rather high price tag. - Breakfast is ordered the night before and supposed to be delivered to the room, at the time you specify. We stayed for 6 nights and breakfast was only on time twice, arriving anything from 15-30 minutes after the time you requested. No big deal if you are just lying by the pool, but as my husband had to leave to go diving one morning it meant he had to go hungry. - For the whole duration of our stay there was only one room key as the previous occupants had apparently forgotten to return the spare. I'm not sure what would have happened if we'd mislaid that key - For three days our air conditioning kept malfunctioning. It was ultimately replaced, and whilst the staff were responsive to get it working again, it just became an annoyance until it was finally fixed - When we left reception tried to get us to sign for the full room charge, even though we'd already paid in advance, which seemed odd. When I asked why hotels.com wouldn't be paying the hotel, they backed down When our driver arrived we said goodbye to the group of staff in reception who were chatting amongst themselves. They didn't reply.
