This hotel is very old, and our room was pretty dirty (there was black mold all over the shower but they cleaned it upon request). However, it's in a great location.

Very nice property, helpful staff, privacy and cleanliness. We really liked the location, beautiful building and quiet atmosphere. No-frills means more affordable! We highly recommend the Architect if you're fine with a less than luxurious mattress and pillows. Will definitely stay there again

Small, but comfortable and clean
The room was much smaller than I'm used to, but it was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Good location. Walking distance to many attractions and close to bus stops if you're not a walker.

There was one staff that worked at night which made my stay better. I requested to speak to a manager but I was told I had to email them because they do not come to the property. My email was never answered and I asked for refund that was never addresses.

The room was very small. If I were not alone it would have been intolerable. But I only needed the room to sleep during a business trip, so it was fine.

Broken safe and lumpy bed
Our safe was out of order. Someone came up to our room but wasn’t able to set it. We put a do not disturb sign on the door during our entire stay and wasn’t able to get our room cleaned for the 3 night stay. The bed was uneven and very uncomfortable. We won’t be staying here again.

1. My unit window faced a blank wall. My request to change was turned down. This was not made know to us when we booked the hotel. This is totally unacceptable as I paid same hotel rate like the rest. 2. The air con not working properly. It went on and off the whole night. Disturbed my sleep throughout the night. 3. Only one elevator was working. The waiting time is far too long. 4. No drinking water provided. Conclusion: I will not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel.

This is a nicely designed hotel that is very near a metro stop and the tourist hot spots (White House, National Mall). The rooms are small and don't have much storage space - no chest of drawers in my room. The bathroom was of a good size and there was a rain shower head. There was no information sheet about what the hotel offered - I learned by accident that there was free coffee in the lobby. The cleaner was a bit absent-minded - no towels in my room when I arrived, and the bath mat disappeared on day 2. The location is great - very near to all the touristy places. There is a metro stop just 2 blocks away.

The Architect is great for the price. The location is about 4 blocks from a metro. Not the closest option but an easy enough walk. It is in a business area with many dining choices. It could use a renovation - it is outdated - but again, that is understandable as it is lower priced than other hotels in the DC area.

I liked the aesthetic of my room but it had a bad paint job and the accomodation itself was uncomfortable. Front desk very friendly. No parking.STAFF IS WONDERFUL AND INFORMATIVE. i liked the experience and history. So much wasted potential here.

Pros: good value for the location. It was clean and I felt safe. Close to everything. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Cons: The room was very small. No in-room refrigerator, only a common refrigerator, and microwave. The safe was so small it did not fit a tablet. The housekeepers, although friendly, no one spoke English, so I could not communicate with them.

Needs some updates
The entrance needs a permanant ramp. There are stairs down which are difficult for a person with luggage and mobility issues. The staff reluctantly help when asked. There is a collapsable ramp for wheelchairs but they refuse to set it up; I got stuck in the elevator several times--when informed the staff said--Yes--it is old; The rooms have no drawers-so if you are staying several nights you have to put your clothes on windowsills. On the up side--outlests and USB portals are plentiful and lighting is sufficient and convenient.

The place is quite outdated, which is fine for the price. However, they haven't invested in relatively minor things (linens, pillows, better lighting) that could greatly improve the guest experience. The pillows need to be badly replaced as they're so flat, as do the AC units and towels. The shower took a whole 5 minutes to get warm, and was FINALLY hot when I was finished showering. The lighting was dim, as either some of the bulbs were out or the fixtures were broken (not sure which). The good things were it was quiet (although would i be able to hear ANYTHING else over the AC unit??), the location is handy and seemed quite safe, was clean enough, and the staff were nice. It's a doable stay if you're on a budget and aren't planning to spend much time in your room besides sleeping.

Very easy to get to, easy check in. So close to everything. I thought it would be priced higher because of how close it was to the Whitehouse. Very happy with it, stored our luggage on the last day, only a few minute walk to busses or metro that go to Union Station or the airport. (we flew into Reagan, 5 stops and 5 minute walk)
