Once referred to as "Little Venice" in the 1800's due to its river-centric trade and transport system, Skamokowa is nestled secretively along the creeks and sloughs of the lower Columbia River and surrounded by lush, bucolic countryside. It's tiny but delightfully self-sufficient with its one grocery store, cafe, book and gift shop, museum and public boat launch ramp. There' s a small offering of inns and B&B's in the area. A no-brainer for kayakers but also a serene refuge for hikers, bikers or those seeking a restful hub for a weekend of scenic drives. • http://www.welcometowahkiakum.com/lodging_skamokawa.shtml • #Skamokawa #ColumbiaRiver #historic #towns #kayak #bike #hike
