The zoo has a great range of animals and exhibits and the grounds are well kept and spacious. There's lots of shade to keep you somewhat cool during those hot Texan summer months if you visit during that time frame. The animal enclosures are nice, and can really give you great views of the animals themselves if you are a bit patient. This also makes for great photo views, as shown here with this photo of an approaching jaguar. Food and snack prices are also very reasonable, as are prices for souvenirs. Upon return, we assessed the accommodations and found the conditions deplorable. We noticed a very musty smell that the huge kitchen air purifier did not remedy. Daybed filthy with broken arms/sides and ripped fabric. Living room sectional was also visibly dirty. Bathroom doors were dirty, smeared with fingerprints. Paint stained, chipped and flaking in bedrooms, on and around doors, and walls. The house needs interior and exterior repairs. The sketchy neighborhood consists of mostly dilapidated houses. As we stood in the kitchen discussing the situation - a house that does not match the pristine photos on the website with substandard conditions- we repeatedly heard much commotion coming from just outside the backdoor until finally, we heard the back door handle jiggling and a thunderous thrusting against the door sounding like someone was trying to break into the home. We immediately tried calling the host to express our major concern for the accommodations and our safety. However, she only responded through text. Her response: "The back glass door swinging on the door can caused the noise. If someone is breaking in. Call 911 please." Within 10 minutes, we had our car loaded up and checked out. We notified Sharon immediately that we checked out due to the conditions of the home and our fear for our safety. We never received further response from the host at all.
