Beautiful property with fabulous views from patio and balcony. Very good breakfast with best pasteries we've had in Portugal. Great staff and very good food both on the patio and the restaurant. We have been in 7 hotels during our trip in Portugal and this is by far the most impressive so far...5 star accomodations.

Fantastic location overlooking the river. If relaxing in a luxury accommodation is what you are after, this is the hotel for you. Food and beverage options are fantastic. The only downside was the walk to your room with your luggage was long and difficult.

This supposed 5 stars hotel charged us 368 euros per night, but offers zero amenities, they do not have a SPA, the rooms are old, the river view was blocked by trees, no elevator to access to the rooms, and the grand finale was the train passing each hour making the building tumble. We decided to leave the hotel and change into a better one.

Beautiful property in a wonderful location. The staff was very nice and professional. We had great experience and enjoyed our stay. The food quality in restaurant for dinner was sub par for a high end property and the prices they are charging. The restaurant staff was nice and ambiance was great.

Great hotel!
My husband and I had a wonderful time in The hotel and the area. Service was great. The breakfast delicious and the hotel restaurant was amazing. The room was comfortable and a good size. The only things we would rather to be a little different to make our time there pristine was the air conditioner that it wasn’t cooling the room enough and the head shower that was the loose ones you find mostly in Europe. All in all a really good time.

Old expensive no working air condition!
The hotel is best located on the Douro very Unic but it’s doesn’t make sense if the room is very old and the air conditioning is old and only makes noise but doesn’t work and doesn’t cool the room!!! You can’t sleep!!! It’s very expensive and don’t worth it!!!!!

A most beautiful place
The only question remaining after our visit was: Is this one the most spectacular hotel locations in the world? If you are a wine lover and you appreciate vineyards and 5 star class food, then the answer could be yes! The Vintage House is first class, and with half/board, represents a great value. The staff are professional and friendly. The breakfast is perhaps the biggest buffet I have seen outside a large cruise ship. The evening meal on the second night, was the best gourmet meal from our three week stay in Portugal, and we had many other fantastic meals! We would highly recommend; they have an extensive wine/port cellar and the concierge directed us to some great vineyard tours. Vintage House exceeded our expectations.

The location of this property on the banks of the Douro and the grounds of the hotel were both wonderful. Very easy access to boat tours along the Douro and a great walk along the river bank. This is a great old hotel with character but our room was a bit tired and dated compared to our rooms at other hotels we stayed at throughout Portugal. The salad my wife ordered at the bar was small and tasteless.

Lovely stay in Douro Valley
Our room was great with a lovely view of the river and the valley. The staff was very helpful and kind. We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and the hotel restaurant staff brought a cake with a candle. And when we got back to our room, a bucket with champagne and glasses was waiting for us! It was such a wonderful surprise! On our last night we sat outside the beautiful garden overlooking the pool and the river and enjoyed our drink and cheese plate before having dinner at Bomfin just a short walk from the hotel.

The location is fabulous. The ambiance also lovely. The physical pant needs updating - a bit faded. For example, Our bedroom floor was uneven. Breakfast was mediocre, but in a very nice setting.

Beautiful Hotel
I mostly enjoyed my stay at this beautiful hotel. The hotel is enormous with many elegant public rooms that are furnished with gorgeous furniture, paintings, etc. I enjoyed drinking wine and cocktails in the splendid Library bar (this was a cool refuge from the oppressive heat outside). My room was good size and comfortable. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. I have 2 criticisms which are both related to their restaurant. On my 1st night, I was informed I could not have dinner in their restaurant until 9 PM because earlier time slots were fully booked. I was unaware of the need to book dinner reservations before arrival at the hotel. You have the option of ordering dinner from the library bar, but the menu is limited and different from the restaurant menu. I made dinner reservations for an earlier time for the other nights of my stay, but I was very annoyed by having to eat so late on that 1st night; particularly since a stroll past the restaurant at about 7:45 PM revealed a few empty tables. My other gripe was forcing restaurant diners to eat outside on the terrace when it was uncomfortably hot out. The temperature during my 3 day stay ranged between 104-107 degrees F (40-42 C). I literally had sweat running down my face while dining and was waving off flies. Unpleasant. On the 3rd night, dinner was held indoors. I suspect the hotel made this welcome change because of complaints received from the night before.

Beautiful hotel and surroundings. A view of the vineyards from almost everywhere in the hotel. The staff were welcoming, quick to please and hard workers. The restaurant hours listed were not followed so be aware it may not be open at all times. They also encourage reservations before you arrive at the restaurant as it books up quickly. The sound seemed to travel between rooms easily. Might suggest putting people with children together as we were woken each night by a crying infant.
