![A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the "Dream Lake", a spring of water which has a mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This gives an illusion that the lake is deeper. The lake is connected to a spring that continues deeper into the caverns.
All in all, it was my first time exploring caverns. It was a fun filled day, learning the stories of the cavern.

Tips: 
1) It is very crowded on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy peaceful, slow paced, less crowded tour of the caverns, go on weekdays.
2) If you visit the caverns, look for these things-
Saracen's tent - scarves and shawls of translucent calcite, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle light can reveal the structure within!
The fried eggs formation - yes, it looks like fried eggs ;)
The Great Stalacpipe Organ - An actual organ which plays music- sounds of Stalactites! DO NOT miss this one!

« My husband and I visited in celebration of his 40th birthday and we were there two nights at the beginning of December. If you love Christmas like I do, coming during the month of December means you get to see the inn decked out in all its beautiful Christmas finery! LOVED the decorations throughout the communal spaces. The tavern and restaurant on site are wonderful, and the food was DELICIOUS. The staff was nothing but welcoming and warm and the epitome of small-town charm. Everyone we met...

« We always enjoy our stay here. Imani, the front desk clerk, is such a delight to talk with. The mattresses are getting a little saggy, but the historic charm and comfort of the hotel is always on point. We appreciate being able to walk to restaurants and the convenient locations to drive to whatever we need. We were bummed the Swamp Fox closed an hour earlier than advertised, though. »
