The owner did offer us a neighboring property, with a working elevator - which we took. This after saying - "you hadn't chatted to note you had folks w limited movement"...my fault for not chatting?Both properties were very quirky, needed updating and work. If two showers were going, one went cold - same if dishwasher was running. Second property had no TV options - no cable, no streaming. That said - the deck was fabulous, and weather awesome, so we really enjoyed that. Kitchen also well appointed, with nice dining area. ##### Crystal A. In description should mention does not come with linens prior to contract. Property old with safety issue of hand rails almost causing a significant fall in. 70 yo. Two of the chairs in the living room were so stained we had to put towels over them. There was a giant dog turd on the porch when we checked in. The hot water stopped working and while the owner came and fixed it, there were a few cold showers. The room where the pool table is located had too much of an odor of must and mildew to use. Loose toilets, ants in the kitchen, hand rail coming off the wall, it just is not worth the price. ##### Liz K. Close to everything, and the neighborhood is beautiful. I loved the fully fenced yard for my dogs. I also loved that everyone got their own bedrooms. Property is dated and not very well maintained, or what I would call comfortable, or accommodating, but we spent most of my time at the beach anyway, so it worked out fine. The location of this house is perfect and the deck is a wonderful place to relax and watch the ocean, but that’s basically where the positives end. This property is in a serious state of disrepair and is borderline hazardous. I would never recommend this house for families with small children - there is rust everywhere and none of the doors/gates latch properly. I would also not recommend this property for anyone who is planning on cooking or having any food of any sort around because it is being taken over by ants (like literally thousands of them) - I notified the owner of this and she didn’t seem surprised at all, just said that it’s common because the house is located on an ant hill. The house in general is very poorly taken care of and is clearly only meant as a source of income and not something the owners care about or have the means to take care of properly. Make sure to pack your own bedding, towels (including hand towels for the bathrooms!), toilet paper/hand soap, and cleaning products. If you’re looking for a slightly more affordable beachfront option and are willing to give up some cleanliness and safety - this is the house for you. ##### Jade P. The beach is not crowded and we have our “own”lifeguard. We were just steps from the ocean. I could see the sunrise from my bedroom window. The house had some cosmetic problems that should be addressed but dont detrack from the property experience (drawer pulls needing replacement, ceilings needing patchwork, etc). One bedroom sprung a leak during the storm, but Lori was very responsive when contacted about it. Overall a great week at the beach. ##### Jessica N. We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the house. We brought our concerns to the owner and her reply was “ I saw it after the cleaners left And it was fine”. The owner claims the previous month’s weather prevented outside maintenance. The issues with the patio and the walkway on the side of the house are clearly more than a month old - hazardous broken/uneven slate patio, exposed nails on walkways and on piles of old wood that have clearly been there for years, walkway lights falling off the deck, exposed cords to trip on, non-code compliant steps and landings - The outside has been neglected for years and it is impossible to avoid since it is the path to the beach. A dated but charming beach house is what we hoped for on the inside but it is not much better with black mold coming out of the ceiling air vents throughout the house. While we were there it rained and 2 of the 5 bedroom ceilings leaked, significantly. The owner claimed it was odd because it wasn’t raining that hard at the time. It’s clear to see that the ceilings just keep getting repatched, but the root of the issue is not being addressed. I requested the owner come to the property or send a representative so I could show my concerns but they did not. The owner prorated a refund of 2 days when we left the property on Thursday because of the leaks. VRBO needs to do quality control on what is being offered on their platform. My recommendation is to do your research before making a decision to stay at this or any of the owners properties ##### Julie C. The house itself needs significant renovation and maintenance. The gate going to the beach fell off the cement wall. The middle bedroom on the second floor had a serious leak which puddled on the floor. Drawers and stair handrails were loose and the deck railing was loose as well. The stove was difficult to light. The tiles in the master bathroom were coming up. The walkway to the beach was wavy and splintered. There were many ants in the kitchen and roaches too. The beach had a lifeguard right out front. There is no crowd and a ton of surfers to watch in the area. The house was clean. No sheets or linens are provided so be sure to arrange that ahead of time or bring them. Croatan is really family-oriented so you need to drive to any bars or restaurants, but that's what we were looking for. Overall amazing stay in a lovely home. We'd stay again for sure. ##### Anne L. It is in a convenient location, has a great view of the ocean, and the A/C, Wi-Fi and appliances worked. Cleanliness - it was terrible: cobwebs hanging from the ceiling; mold growing on a glass top table; the entire ground floor level smelled like mold and mildew; we had to wipe down all the stair handrails as they were sticky and dirty; the 2 grills were rusted, greasy, disgusting and unusable. Equipment - furniture was damaged with tape repairs; glass top dining table was not attached to the base; kitchen glasses were chipped and dangerous to use; outdoor toys were broken and rusty; Teflon coating on pots and pans was gone; other kitchen equipment was cheap and old; the ceiling fan in the entryway is rusted and makes terrible noises when you turn it on. Safety - the walkway to the beach is overgrown and had warped boards with rusty nails sticking out; broken and damaged pavers on the back patio; holes in the walls and ceilings in multiple locations; stair hand rail repaired with duct tape; toilet paper holder missing; garage almost filled with old carpets, broken furniture and unusable equipment. This house is especially dangerous for children. We have pictures to back this all up. ##### Paul B.
