Quaint, old hotel in a terrific neighborhood. We had a small, economy room with a double-sized bed that was comfortable. We liked the pub downstairs, busy, lively, but good service and food.

Quiet and decent room. Not really renovated but a good basic place to stay near the harbour.
The James Bay Inn is an old and charming property that opened in 1911 but that still has modern plumbing, electrical, and wifi.
The innkeeper is very friendly and made us feel welcome the moment we walked in. The lounge area is comfortable and charming. I made a point of spending some time there instead of just walking through, which is how I usually treat lobbies.
James Bay Inn is close enough to walk to the wharf and the Parliament buildings on one side and the beach and parks on the other. It's very well situated.
On our last day, we ate in the diner below the hotel and I wished we'd eaten their earlier. It was very nice and very reasonable.
We enjoyed our first stay at James Bay Inn very much. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The location is perfect - just a stone's throw away from the Victoria Harbour, but far enough to be quiet and away from traffic. The place itself is charming and well-kept.
Just a couple of things that prevent me from giving it a top rating:
- no hair dryer. I expect that to be standard these days.
- a very warm room. We turned the radiator way down, and opened up several windows (it was 10C outside), but even so, had trouble sleeping as it was so warm. We were only there two nights...had we stayed a third, I would have mentioned it.
Beautiful historical boutique hotel, great charm, walking to harbour restaurants parks, colourful rooms, cosy, comfortable, excellent price, pub downstairs looks good with an interesting menu
