Romantic escape without the kids!!
I e-mailed the hotel asking for a canal view in advance after reading other reviews, and on our arrival the lovely receptionist showed us to our superior double, four poster room, with 2 large windows overlooking the canal, with gondolas sailing below, and the occasional sound of accordions and singing, which was fabulous! The room was spotless, bathroom too, good shower and fluffy towels.
The location was perfect, 5 minute walk, if that, to waterbus and Piazza San Marco. We followed the directions to the hotel provided on the website and found it easily, but spent a lot of time walking around in circles after that, which was all part of the adventure! Breakfast was lovely, varied, and plentiful. Food in Venice is great but not around San Marco, which was touristy, head toward Accademia. Best meal was at Guidecca at I figli delle stelle. Go! We walked 30 miles in 4 days and saw as much as Venice as possible using the water buses to get around as well. Highlights were The Doge's palace and the Basilica of course, but also The Ghetto and San Rocca, Peggy Guggenheim's place, the view from the tower of San Giorgio Maggiore, and every single view from a bridge!!
