This was our second time returning to the hilltop hideaway and love how cozy and secluded it feels. The views are beautiful and you can't beat the private river access. We are expecting our first baby and did a private gender reveal with our family while at the property. It was picture perfect. It's the perfect spot to lose service, sit back, and enjoy the hillcountry. You could hear a neighbor in the distance periodically but the house itself was secluded. My family enjoyed all the birdhouses around the house and particularly the many hummingbirds. River access was nice. We saw one other group about 50 yards down the river on the first day of arrival but after that, we had it to ourselves. The access to the house and river was steep but we walked it many times with no issues or took a vehicle down. We loved that the access was super easy to get to compared to other houses we have stayed at. My kids liked that there was a large shallow spot to hunt fish and then also a deeper area for swimming. They swam to a small waterfall upriver. There is a flat area next to the river where our pop up canopy sat perfectly. We liked that the house had the master bedroom across the house so if the kids crashed early and we were still awake, it didn’t disturb them. All my kids slept on either the Murphy bed or crashed on the couches in the living room even though there was another room available. They treated it like a bunk room for them. House was spacious and liked that it had multiple bathrooms. Plenty of games were available for the kids. Kitchen had all the appropriate cookware for our needs. My family enjoys hiking so this was the perfect spot as it’s about 5 minutes from Lost Maples park. Leakey was a short scenic drive and we did lunch there one day. A place to de-stress, relax, breathe and watch nature surrounding you. There was an army of hummingbirds and cardinals plus a few lazy squirrels. We enjoyed the Sabinal river on the property and being able to watch the kids having fun floating and make marshmallows on the fire pit. All in all exactly what we needed.. This is a secluded home perched above the Sabinal river with views of the hill country. There is a steep rocky incline leading to the house that we knew about but still had us nervous traversing it each time. The property has numerous bird feeders for wildlife viewing! Finding the Hilltop River Hideaway was the perfect way to bring our families back to share our memories and love for the Hill Country. We enjoyed this home so much we extended our 3 day stay 2 extra days! The hosts have been amazing. We have 7 kids here ages 14-2 and they have all enjoyed it so much. Things weve enjoyed at the home: bird watching, building a campfire, a meteor shower/ star gazing, exploring, rock hunting, hiking, playing in the water, playing board games, cooking food, hot tub, grilling, looking at the moon through the telescope. The beds are extremely comfortable and everyone slept well. Only thing i would say is watch out for scorpians in the house. We saw several upon arrival then none for the remainder of the day. ##### Erica P. Our grandkids loved the creek access and went every day to play in the water. The scenery was great and sitting on the porch was my favorite place. This was a great alternative. The home is a remote setting above the Sabinal River with views of beautiful mountains, stars everywhere at night and hummingbirds everywhere by day. Very spacious home, large decks, fun antiques old books, chessboard to occupy the downtime. The river provides a nice spot to cool down and kids loved trying to catch a few fish. They even set up a small pup tent for the camping experience. Home is well stocked but take everything you need with you …this is remote. Leakey Texas provided a few casual places to eat. Lost Maples was beautiful. We did the East Trail, kinda difficult but Monkey Rock was easy to get to. So if you love the outdoors you will love staying at this secluded home in the hills. We have stayed here many times and have always loved the home the views and the property. In the spring, the birds are always plentiful and fun to watch. Brent is a great host, providing everything from bird seed to charcoal for the grill. A fine place to unwind and recharge. ##### Rob P. I knew fam would NOT like deer lease camper… lol We stayed here January 3-7 Wow! Very beautiful and quaint. Felt like you were stepping back in time with a farmhouse feel. View is beautiful.
