The house is about 10 minutes from Angels Camp, and like 15 to New Melones. The house is comfortable and clean. The beds are very comfortable as well! Lots of movies (DVDs under the tv in the living room). The TV in the master does not (that we could find) have a remote so that's a bit of a bummer. You can park a boat in the driveway, if you unhook it from your truck & there is a place in the garage to charge your battery (outlet and run your own cord out the door). The 2nd night we stayed hooked to the truck and parked in front of the house. The neighborhood is.... well in my opinion less than charming. But if you're looking for a place to sleep after a long day fishing, this is it!! It's worth the little drive. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip up that way. ##### Jennifer S. Stayed 1 night in Jul 2019 ### 10/10 Excellent #### John I., Huntington Beach, CA Sep 14, 2018 #### Enjoyed our stay at the Decanted Chateau! This house was perfect for our party of 3 people and 2 large dogs. The well equipped kitchen and outdoor gas grill made it easy to prepare and enjoy most meals right here during our 5 night stay. This was especially relaxing after spending the better part of the day waterskiing on nearby Lake New Melones. We also managed to squeeze in a little wine tasting at the nearby wineries and strolled Main Street in Murphy's a couple evenings while enjoying some delicious ice cream from JoMa's Artisan Ice Cream - all within a few minutes drive of the Decanted Chateau. Additionally, the owners were very responsive and accommodating. ##### John I. Stayed 5 nights in Aug 2018 ### 2/10 Terrible #### Debra C. Jun 3, 2022 Liked: Check-in, communication Disliked: Cleanliness #### Disappointed I could tell from the photos that the house was dated and the reviews mentioned that the neighborhood was not well lit and older-/ I was OK with that. However, when we arrived the front yard was overtaken with weeds, there were no steps into the front door, it was one huge step up. The backyard, which was great for our dogs but not for sitting out in the patio table/barbecue area that was listed. It too was overcome with weeds and the table and patio area was a mess—not inviting. The inside as mentioned was dated and looked as though it had not been dusted for a very long time. The hanging chandeliers, above the sink knickknacks were thick with dust and the TV Consol you could write your name on it. The carpet is tired and could be replaced. The oven was not clean the bottom looked as if someone had spilled and it had been baked over. The queen bed mattress sagged in the middle and we rolled towards the center, the king mattress was just OK. They did have games, which was a plus, however the chairs at the kitchen table were very uncomfortable. One positive the bathroom was newly remodeled, but still was not completed—Molding was missing around the doors and no baseboard. There were four towels but, no washcloths and only two hand towels for four adults. The rest of the neighborhood pretty much looks like this house and front yard; so I guess there’s no reason to do any yardwork? Bottom line it’s very unfortunate that the owners or the property managers can ask the amount for this particular VRBO, and actually have a cleaning deposit, that whoever is doing their cleaning is doing a horrible job. This house really has a lot of potential and the fact that it is so close to Murphy’s is a plus for this property. We made the best of it. Note: the homeowners did work with me to reschedule our dates. ##### Debra C. Stayed 4 nights in Dec 2021 This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good #### Shelly L., Manchester, CA USA Aug 18, 2017 #### Clean little home with easy access to Murphys (just 1.5 miles away) We had a "Girls Weekend" here recently (August 2017) with 4 women staying over a weekend to see a concert at Ironstone and to do a little wine tasting/shopping in Murphys. The house is just 1.5 miles from downtown Murphys, which makes it very convenient for both of these things in addition to many local area wineries (or you can opt for the many wine shops downtown). There's a convenient local grocery store which has a great deli, local wines and just about anything you need, plus a Redbox. There's a health food store next to it, as well as a pizza joint. The house is clean, comfortable and has typical amenities. I should have made use of the garage instead of parking in the driveway because two pine cones hit and DENTED my car, unfortunately. So make sure you don't park in the driveway (there's parking in front of the house too, so parking isn't a problem). There's a standard gas BBQ out in the fenced backyard, which made cooking our dinner easy. Full size fridge, washer and dryer are available to use, but you will be hand-washing your dishes (we bought paper plates to make it quick n easy, plus you might want to buy/bring paper towels as none are provided). There is wall AC, so be aware it's not central AC. We kept it running the entire time because it was very hot (95+) all weekend. The living room was quite cold, but the bedrooms weren't. However, there are ceiling fans in all rooms and also a table fan....helpful, but still warm. I slept on the pull out couch one night (ugh, these are NOT comfortable for adults, IMHO), then on the King bed (it was okay for a night or two, but I'm picky about beds). My friends said the Queen bed was just fine. Bathroom was clean and while not huge, it was big enough for two of us to do our hair at the same time. Other folks have commented on the location and while it's appears to be a typical working-class neighborhood we never had a problem. Matter of fact the helpful neighbor came over to assist my friends in getting the TV to work (they couldn't figure out the cable box situation). All in all, if we were to do this again I'd rent the house again.....no complaints for 2 nights. This is a standard rental, nothing fancy or pretentious, but then we weren't looking for anything fancy. Just something clean, comfortable and convenient to town....and it met the mark on all of these! Thank you Megan and Jeff\~ ##### Shelly L.
