There’s a great pool, a stunning yoga and meditation center, and the surroundings are incredibly peaceful. The restaurant is on the expensive side, and service was a bit slow at times. Our cabin had A/C issues the first night, and it was uncomfortably hot — we couldn’t sleep. Thankfully, the staff moved us to a different cabin the next day, and everything went smoothly after that. The hotel is located inside a national park, and at first, I was a bit upset because we had to pay an entrance fee I wasn’t aware of. But that was totally on me. The food and drinks are double normal prices but we found other options in town. The beach, overall vibe, and daily yoga in the stunning ocean-view shala made it all worth it. The beds were very comfortable and the shared washrooms / showers were good - lots of hot water. I rented a bike from Ikal and rode to Gran Cenote which took about 30 minutes, 20 on a modern path and 10 on road side. Not for beginners. You can walk to ruins from Ikal. But overall I loved the stay and had a great time. Only there are also a lot of things that could be better. To start with the positive things: + Really nice park setting + Free water in the whole park (there are plenty of watertaps) + Near/at de beach + Clean shared bathrooms + No loud music and no noice during the night + Good lightning in de night to go to bathroom Negative things or things that you should be aware of are: -/- highly overpriced drinks and food (glas of wine 16 usd and beer 7 usd for example) -/- some waiters only busy with getting tips instead of giving good an nice service -/- no breakfast included. Its available for aroud 10 usd -/- no shop at the camping or in the area for buying small food and drinks -/- park entrance not included in de price of the accommodation. More than 20 usd a person and only valit for one day. So when you leave the National park to go to Tulum center for example, you have pay again! -/- be aware that the beach front tents dont have beach view!!! Its better to book garden view. Aldo less noice from the ocean. -/- hotel cant help this, but there is alot of dirt on the beaches and in the water -/- the taxi from Tulum center to the hotel is overpriced and cost 20 usd. The unit I stayed in was clean and nice and very close to the beach. Housekeeping was very hit or miss and you could hear the neighbors even lightly talking so I would recommend brining headphones and an eye mask. The pros: The meditation/yoga classes they are offer were great. If you are staying at GlampIKAL you receive one 200 peso class for free. The classes range from 200 to 350 pesos. They also offer a wide range of on campus and off campus healing modalities. The best thing I did on my trip was the Healing Sound Therapy at a Private Cenote in the jungle with Diego. Couldn't recommend it enough! The cons: The restaurant at IKAL is by far the worst restaurant I've been to in my life. I waited an hour and 15 minutes for overnight oats that never came after speaking to 6 people which made me miss my meditation class on winter solstice. I stayed for 7 days and on all but one occasion I had major issues at the restaurant. Every person I talked to at GlampIKAL said the same thing and most of the issues were when there were only a few people even eating at the restaurant. The restaurant is also wildly expensive and the food is average at best. Catch the sunrise on the beach before the tourists visiting the national park enters, and stay after sunset...For the price, the room was clean and spacious and the staff friendly and helpful. The shared bathrooms and showers are kept quite clean. Issues: wifi did not reach my room at all (but I can go by the restaurant for wifi or on the beach for 4G signal); the A/C did not work well, which was fine at night for my season (november), but don't plan on staying in during the day. You won't stay in. The park is now militarized and run by the government. You must purchase a bracelet to ride the electric trams in the park approx. $25 US. I couldn't get an answer on how long it was good for.Secondly , if you want to venture out to town or on an excursion you must pay a daily fee of 120 pesos or $6.50 US. to be allowed back in to the resort you paid to stay at. The Military also patrols the beach on ATV's. Taxis are expensive and the quoted price can change when you arrive at your destination. The harassment while shopping near the Ruins and exit of the park is exhausting. Sellers will chase you down. Something odd is happening at Glamp Ikal as they used to be a partner to the more luxurious Ikal Hotel adjoining the property. There were very little staff on site. It was very unclear who was actually in charge daily. There were a few grounds men . After more than 5 trips to the check in area it was hard to find anyone. Upon arrival my friend and I were just taken to our separate tents. No orientation, wifi password or how to operate the AC. Warning: there are no handrails on the platforms of the elevated tents . Some of the steps are extremely steep and the distance between them is very uneven. I sprained my foot and ankle ten minutes upon arriving trying to navigate the tent's steps( pics available) . The tent I was given reeked of mold. Expensive tents or fine huts just on the beach! I visited Tulum 1980 and everthing has changed. The pristine environment has changed dramatically. But, here at Nawal you feel you are pretty close to nature with the jungle just by the beach and you just beside. The breakfasts at the neighbouring restaurant are in fresh memory as well as the welcoming and very friendly staff of Casa Nawal.
