As you enter the villa, you will be greeted by the spacious and bright open-plan living room, complete with comfortable sofas and a flat-screen TV for your entertainment. Below are some of our recommended attractions: Swimming: Within a short distance from the villa, you can find many beaches for every taste, such as Lagouvardos (4km), Romanos beach (15km), Voidokoilia beach (15km), Agios Ioannis, Agia Sotira, the Mati, as well as the Proti island, which you can visit by boat. Many of these beaches are naturally ideal for wind surfing enthusiasts! Historical sights: Discover the rich history of the region by visiting the famous Nestor's Palace (18km), Ancient Messene (65km), Gialova Lake (Natura 2000 protected area, 19km), Polilimnio lakes and waterfalls (35km), Neda river (44km), Castle of Kiparissia (27km), or Castle of Pylos (25km). Sports: Experience a wide range of sports activities, whether organized or individual, such as biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, snorkeling, board surfing, wind surfing, and sailing. If you prefer to use public transportation, you can take the bus from Athens to Kalamata and then change to a local bus to Marathopoli. There are also buses from other nearby towns and cities, such as Pylos and Kyparissia. The closest airport to the house is Kalamata International Airport, which is approximately 50 km away. You can also rent a car at the airport or arrange for a taxi transfer to the house. Once you arrive at the house, you will find plenty of parking space available. From there, you can explore the village and the surrounding area on foot, by bike, or by car. The location of the house is very convenient for day trips to many popular attractions and sights in the area. It's of Voidokilia Beach and it's surroundings. Voidokilia Beach is on the Peloponnese peninsula and it was the most picturesque beach that I visited during that Greek trip, which was almost exclusively in Messinia. On that mountain is Nestor's Cave and above this are the ruins of a 13th-century Frankish castle (Old Navarino or Palaiokastro). Look closely and you will see :). I didn't get to walk up there. It was brutally hot that day and I spent most of the time at the beach. But, I did make time for some hiking. Near where I took this photo there was a lot of medieval or ancient ruins. Near those beautiful rocks. Wanting to avoid crowded cities, this small seaside village 3.5hrs southwest of Athens was ideal to relax and unwind, serving up amazing local food, with a beautiful spot to swim in the sea at the end of the street or at the gorgeous beach nearby. We ventured out to a waterfall, took a boat ride to the island close by for some snorkeling, and explored some castles and nearby villages. Our hosts were extremely attentive, and responsive to our every need and request, including providing us with a cooking lesson at their nearby restaurant and hiring a messeur to come to the house to provide us all massages. It was everything we hoped tor and we would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation! ##### Allyson V. Huge property with plenty of bathrooms. Marathopoli was a nice town and Voidokilia is a must see. Well equipped kitchen but the water pressure was low so it was hard to clean the sink well. Neighbourhood dogs were an effective alarm clock at 5am. Switched pillows with the children’s room as there was a smell of smoke in our room even though the bedding was clean. The villa is situated 5 minutes walk from Marathopoli itself, great location for restaurants and small supermarket. Both the agent (Holihouse) and the owner (Katerina) were very responsive from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble. For a reasonable fee, we had the villa cleaned and the linen changed twice a week. All rooms, except the twin room, have air conditioning - a blessing during the heatwave when we stayed.
