Other amenities: A/C (living room and bedroom), full bathroom with shower, cable, TV, a small dining area, and free wifi. All guests have full access to common areas: Indoor kitchen in the main building, outdoor kitchen, hot tub, and bonfire pit. The Open Hearth Inn has two Apartments (#6 and #16). Both are decorated with rustic charm and well supplied with kitchen basics. These are great spaces for larger families or larger groups that want to have a private space while still enjoying Open Hearth\`s Rustic charm. Located on Route 3 at the head of Mount Desert Island, The Open Hearth Inn is 12 miles to Bar Harbor, 9 miles to Acadia National Park, 15 miles to Bass Harbor Head Light, 12 miles to Southwest Harbor, 8 miles to Ellsworth, 35 miles to the Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park, 36 miles to Bangor, 65 miles to Camden and 163 miles to Portland. The Bar Harbor Hancock County Airport is a half-mile up the road. The Open Hearth Inn makes a great home base for day trips around Downeast Maine and the coastal beauties such as Mount Desert Island (MDI). Simply self-check-in properties. Bakery and Lunts Lobster shop within about a 1 min walk just across the road. Trenton is the gateway to Acadia and the park starts just half a mile down the road! Acadia National Park is just a quick 10 mins down the road and the of Bar Harbor a mere 20 mins. Experience the beauty of Mount Desert Island without the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor while still being fairly close to anything you could possibly need for the best Maine adventure. NO matter the time of year; spring, summer, autumn, or winter The Open Hearth will always be waiting for you. Pet Policy: Here at Open Hearth Inn we welcome your four-legged family member. However, we ask you to help us with the following pet rules while staying with us. 1\. Please don\`t leave your pet in the rooms unattended. Why? Because they miss you and from our experience of being professional hosts since the 90\`s, when they are lonely they howl or bark causing others to lose the quiet enjoyment on the property. Lonely pets also use the bed or other furniture to snuggle on while you are away. This is super tough for our housekeepers to remedy because blankets or comforters need to be washed or replaced, also furnishings can take hours to remove hair from so we can present a clean space for the next guest. Maine is a very pet friendly place and since you brought them on vacation we hope you keep them with you so they can enjoy \`Vacation Land\` as much as humans do. 2\. Please pick up all the poop/excrement they may have. 3\. Please have your pup on a leash when enjoying the common areas. 4\. Please try to refrain your dog from barking. We have dog treats, extra poo bags and a water bowl in the common room. \*There will be an additional cleaning fee charged if your pet makes a mess of the room or the bedding. Ohana Inn allowed us easy access to MDI without the crowds. We spent 4 nights here, and made 2 treks onto the island. The Bar Harbor area is VERY busy and not for everyone. We enjoyed the ability to explore Acadia without all the people. The apartment is cute and quaint. It was big enough for our family of 3\. The Inn as a whole was a very welcoming environment. We had easy access to a large fire pit, living areas in the main house and outdoor activities, all while having the privacy we wanted. This unit has easy access to the hot tub on the back side of the main house without needing to even go outside. The property is located along the busy highway so as far as hanging outside chilling by the fire pit, etc, it is a bit loud and distracting, but it was also fun to see all the travelers going by. We arrived in the evening after hours and our room number was a bit hidden in the bushes so we had a hard time finding it at first but just had to call and had immediate assist! The stay only got better from there. Walking into our cozy apartment felt like we were walking into a relatives house just waiting for a familiar loved one to walk around the corner.
