Great service but need to work on the room
Helpful and very welcoming staffs. Room is not so well maintained. Humid in the room. Bathroom is small (Have stayed in hotels in Japan, and this is quite small). The wooden bed frame or floor (can't tell which one) makes sound on every toss and turn you make on the bed. There's a desk in the room, which is a plus when you travel with work.

The amazing staff really made this stay special. They helped us book reservations, call cabs, and make special arrangements for our stay. It’s inside a quiet neighborhood with hidden cafes, a bakery, and a Ministop for snacks. It’s a 6 minute walk to the Iriya station for the Hibiya Line making it easy access to Ginza, Ueno, Akihabara, or anywhere you want to go. When you stay, definitely reserve a bath and order breakfast for a memorable experience!

Wonderful, friendly international staff. Great Japanese breakfast option. Room was good, but just a tad worn. Not a problem for me, as it was at an excellent price. Reserve the Japanese style bath at least one night of your stay. The oden izakaya restaurant just around the corner (Oillia) is also great.

The bottom bedding lacked cushioning. The laundry facilities and onsen use had a separate charge. The onsen was next to the kitchen, you could hear pots banging, staff talking, and smell the food being prepared. In general, the staff was overeager in a slightly invasive way.

Excellent Choice
Amazing! You will enjoy staying at the Edo Sakura so much! Breakfast is delicious, the staff are super friendly, the rooms are clean & comfortable, and there is a free morning traditional tea service. Why stay in a room the size of a drawer at other hotels for the same price? Plus there is a gorgeous temple right around the corner. Best choice in Asakusa for sure!

A bit expensive for what it is and the location
Located in somewhat residential area of Taito city, this small hotel is acceptable. I feel however it is too expensive for what it is, approx. 130 USD for a night. Super thin futon mats that you unwrap for night time. Very bare bathroom. Nothing explicitly bad, but should be a bit cheaper per night for the bare amenities provided. Staff is very nice and friendly.

This is the best hotel we have ever stayed in and it made our trip to Tokyo stress free and a mixture of exciting and relaxing! The hotel just looked and felt amazing, with genuinely friendly staff that asked us every evening how our day had been, speaking english while encouraging our understanding of Japanese aswell. We stayed in a traditional room and loved the tatami and futons, but wished we could look out the window more since it felt a bit enclosed in the room. The fridge was very handy as we often bought takeaway back to eat and the shower was easy to use, as was the AC after a long day. Breakfast was delicious (I loved the thick toast especially). We loved exploring the neighborhood, a local traditional restaurant and bakery were our favourite places to visit, and being so close to Iriya station made travelling around Tokyo simple. We are missing the Edo Sakura so much and wish we had stayed even longer! We will be back in the future!! Thank you so much to all of the staff that made our short time in Japan so amazing.

Made my first visit to Tokyo a joy.
From the moment I entered the doors of this lovely little inn, I was made to feel so welcome and cared for. Such a great feeling after a long flight. Very comfortable futon, a little warm in the room but I was able to open the window. Quiet. Restful. Very good breakfast (salmon) -- thank you Yoko! Very reasonably priced, close to the subway and rail connections. Walking distance to Ueno Park and the Senso-ji Temple in the Asakusa neighbourhood. For someone who'd never been to Japan, didn't know the language or my way around, this was the ideal place. Good for families as well. Arigato!

Ryokan Quirky but Lacking
Location and style is all great here but a few things need addressing, The futon mattresses are too thin for our western bodies! Though fun they provide little comfort overnight. Please provide CHAIRS in room! It was reductions that we had to sit on the floor to make a cup of tea. Charming and extremely well trained staff! Thankyou for making our stay so welcoming.

Comfortable, charming hotel
This hotel is a charming little place in a residential area of Tokyo. The rooms are comfortable and clean with their own bathroom and air con. I stayed in one of the traditional style rooms which had the rollout futon mattresses which can be a bit thinner than what westerners are used to but are still quite cosy. The hotel is in a residential area but is a five minute walk from Iriya metro station which is only one stop from the Ueno hub station so it's easy enough to get around the city. The staff are also very friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Traditional serene stay close to major metro lines
This small hotel is a traditional inn tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. The serene aspect comes in not only from the traditional architecture and craftsmanship, but also from the several little gardens inside and outside the hotel. The room I had was clean and compact and was functionally comfortable enough to keep me happy. The en-suite bathroom had a deep and short tub. Sleeping on the traditional mats on the ground is not for everybody, and so are the floor chairs - chairs without legs. The traditional breakfast is a great value, and the tables and stools in the small dining room provide a great compliment to the hotel.

BEYOND AMAZING!
THIS could be one of the neatest hotel experiences I've had! The rooms were superbly clean, the staff went out of their way to make the stay an enjoyable as possible, and the free morning tea ceremony and baths are an added bonus. Sleeping in the Japanese-style room was unlike anything either of us had experienced before. You can also request a western room if tatami floors aren't your thing. We were moved rooms after our first night's stay, but they were nice enough to comp us a bath for our inconvenience (which wasn't inconvenient at all, as they moved all of our bags for us). Be sure to book a bath after a long day of walking. This is an incredible hotel and I plan on returning in the future. Well worth every penny.

Great Little Gem!!!
It can be a little difficult to find the first time, apart from that this hotel is a great little gem! It has both ryokan style room and normal hotel style room. I chosed the normal room because my wife is pregnant and I didn't know if ryokan style bed would be comfortable enough for her. We both regretted it when we see how nice the ryokan style room is. Would have been a great experience. The hotel also offer free "tea ceremony" for those who is interested in Japanese tea culture. The closes station Iriya is about 2 minutes walk, but this is operated by Hibiya. The larger Ueno station is about 15 minutes walk. Service and cleanliness are excellent.

Be aware of the futon.
Ok this hotel is lovely and the lady who manages it is so friendly and helpful, my only issue is the futon on the floor - being a 6ft 6 westerner heavily built it was really not the best nights sleep it can also feel a bit like a squat. Breakfast very good and very close to underground.

Cosy and authentic
Stayed at the Edo Sakura for 5 nights in one of their Japanese Tatami-style rooms. As expected, the room was small but clean and cosy! I thought I was going to get a backache sleeping on the floor but to my surprised, I didn't. Still, it would be nice if the mattress was twice the thickness. Didn't watch the 20-22inch TV in the room as all the channels was in Japanese but the internet was free and fast. The rest of the hotel facilities are at the ground floor near the lobby/reception counter. There is a nice tea-ceremony room where guests can watch the 30-min demonstration at 10am. The public bath is also on the ground floor and can only fit 2 persons each time. The lift was really fast for a small hotel. I was a bit doubtful when choosing the hotel as it is located in a sub-urban neighbourhood. Thankfully, it's located near a school so it was easy to find it on Google Map. It only took us a day to get used to the train system and the closest one, Iriya Station is just 5 minutes away from the hotel. Eventually, the location of the hotel turned out to be a blessing. After roaming around the busy areas of Tokyo, we came to appreciate the peacefulness when walking back to the hotel. Finally, hotel staff were very helpful and can speak good English. Highly recommended to all except those who prefers staying close to the main shopping districts like Shibuya/Shinjuku which are about 30 minutes ride. Tsukiji, Akihabara, Asakusa and Ginza were convenient to get from the hotel

Special hotel
This is a wonderful hotel to stay in. It is wonderfully managed with a friendly, helpful staff. The location is ideal because it is 1. quiet 2. close to the subway 3. close to all the Ueno Park and Yanaka attractions. Best of all it is a gorgeous place to stay. If arriving in Japan for the first time, I recommend this hotel as it will immerse you in the culture and yet enable you to feel comfortable. Hotel is stunningly clean, beautiful and efficient. Many thanks!

Bang for the buck.
Greàt location, easy access to Tokyo Metro and lots of cafe nearby to excite the palate. Staff speak good English and very helpful. Laundry facility is extremely handy. Not a large hotel and therefore no big crowds. Room size is comparable to the other large 4-star hotel that we stayed in Kyoto. Just have to make your own futon bed here and sit on floor. If you are out and about all day in Tokyo and wanting a good room to back to, for peace and quiet, this is it.

Nice, quiet, very clean hotel, but very basic
Hotel is clean throughout, the stuff is very nice and helpful, breakfast is good. Our room (6 tatami) and the bathroom were tiny-tiny. Sleeping on the floor turned out to be a bigger challenge than I thought - good experience, but I won't try in again :) I was uncomfortable, and had asked for a second mattress - it helped somewhat. Didn't take advantage of the tee ceremony, as we were normally out by 8 - 9 am. If I am in Tokyo again I would get into a more expensive hotel with a larger room and closer to the metro station.

Very helpful staff
We loved the Edo Sakura, mainly because the staff working there were so helpful and nice. The futons were terribly uncomfortable for our Western backs, though, so we won't be back. But the shower was incredible. My husband said it was the best he's ever used. Just big enough, and with great water pressure.
