The balcony offers fresh air and a peaceful view of the surrounding hills. You’ll find the apartment in the heart of Todi, an Umbrian hilltown famous for picturesque winding streets and breathtaking views. It was once the home of the painter Umberto Bartolini, an art teacher and prominent cultural figure in Todi at the turn of the twentieth century, and you can read about his life in the guestbook. The apartment is decorated with his oil paintings, drawings and sketches as well as photographs taken by the current owner, who is Bartolini's descendant and an artist in his own right. At this house, you’ll be welcomed as a traveller -- even a member of the family -- and never an anonymous tourist. The apartment is situated on the upper two floors of a traditional stone-built house dating from the Middle Ages. The Second Floor hosts a formal living room dedicated to Bartolini's memory and decorated with his paintings and drawings, as well as lovely 19th-century antiques. The 2 bedrooms (1 double and 1 single) are connected by a full bathroom. Both bedrooms have fine views. The Third Floor has a dining-room with a table for four, and it leads out to a balcony with beautiful views over the hills to the south and west. The sunsets behind the cupola of the famous Renaissance church, the Tempio di Santa Maria della Consolazione, are amazing. There is a fully equipped kitchen open to the dining-room on one side and a sitting-room (with sofabed) on the other, as well as a single bedroom with half bath. Please be aware that in order to enjoy the beautiful views from the property, you will be climbing three flights of stairs to reach the apartment on the Second Floor, and two more to get to the Third Floor. The apartment is therefore not accessible to anyone with limited mobility. The narrow streets of Todi are beautiful but can also present parking problems. Directly in front of the apartment is a small piazza where you can stop to unload your bags. And only a few metres down the road there is unlimited and secure free parking. This apartment is spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and the rooftops from almost every window. It has everything you would need, including a basic pantry. There is only 2 of us but we enjoyed the indulgence of having a bit more space to spread out. Carlo was so helpful and approachable, always responding promptly to our questions. He gave us a tour of the old town, pointing out the sites and his favourite places to eat, while showing us where to park. He then helped us plan our day trips to the surrounding countryside. Just a warning for those with mobility issues that this apartment has a lot of stairs and the town has some steep streets, as do most hilltop towns. Carlo helped us with our luggage so that was not a problem. This was a very relaxing place to base our exploration of Umbria which we highly recommend. ##### Leanne H. The apartment is in an absolutely charming and friendly town in Umbria. The apartment is inside the old City wall a short distance from theCentral square . It is a beautiful apartment with lovely decor but the wow factor are the views...especially from the balcony. To top it off Carlo is a super host who gave us great recommendations for restraints and days out. We would highly recommend the apartment and the town of Todi for your trip to Umbria 😀 ##### Shane M. The apartment was well situated in the historic centre of Todi with a free parking place quite near. The rooms were all very clean and nice, I especially liked the little kitchen. Among the best moments of our holiday in Italy was to sit on the balcony above the roofs, contemplating the incredible view over the mountains. Carlo was a very welcoming and attentive host. He also gave us advices of what to do and see in Todi. La Gardenia clearly deserves the highest points, I have already recommended it to friends. ##### Ann B. The view is unbelievable (almost every window has an incredible view). We spent a lot of time on the balcony relaxing at the end of each day. Carlo is a perfect host. He really goes out of his way to make sure you are happy and comfortable in his home. When we booked the apartment, we thought that it might be too big since it is just for two of us. We never regretted our decision. It was such a treat to have some extra room to relax in. The location is perfect. We visited several of the medieval hill top towns in the region during our five night stay and we agreed that Todi is our favorite. So charming and a central location to so much to see and do in the area. We walked everywhere in Todi. There was no need for us to use our car once we returned from our many day trips. The highlight of our trip was a cooking class with La Lingua La Vita school. If you are looking for an authentic experience with an Italian family, we highly recommend doing this. ##### Karen V. Carlo was a fantastic host meeting us over coffee and then helping us get moved into La Gardenia where we had fresh fruit, water, and coffee waiting for us. He gave us a tour of Todi, made many recommendations and even helped coordinate a cooking class. La Gardenia has an amazing view, is spacious and beautifully decorated. It is very clean and well stocked. We had everything we needed! We will return to La Gardenia!! ##### Karen P. Location is great, right in the heart of Todi. Apartment was very comfortable, clean, well maintained with all the amenities one might expect. Top floor living and kitchen area offers nice privacy and natural light with great views of the surrounding area. Host Carlo was exceptional, meeting us personally, helping with luggage, and taking the time to answer questions about Todi and recommending restaurants, markets, and nearby places to visit. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Umbria. The only possible drawback for some might the the steps up to the apartment.
