"My girlfriend and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect getaway. Waking up to that **incredible breakfast**—homemade, fresh, and so thoughtfully prepared—was such a treat every morning. The island itself is **pure magic**: quiet, untouched, and exactly the peaceful escape I needed. And the host? Just **the kindest, most welcoming person**—not only did they make sure I had everything I needed, but their passion for tea turned simple evenings into these lovely, memorable moments. It’s rare...

Top Tianjing Hotel Reviews

The Windyard Kazan Onsen Hotel-Private Hot Spring Bathtub close to South Gate of Dali Ancient Town

8/10 Good

"It was a good stay for us, the room was clean, staff very friendly, but if you are a non smoker, there's second hand smoke in the breakfast area or common areas, which is typical of most properties as the staff smoke. The breakfast is suited for Chinese travelers, so if you are accustomed to a western style breakfast, you won't find it here."

Anyu Aranya Collection Sea View Resort Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Everything was great. There is no gym though if that is important to you"

Hilton Garden Inn Dali Ancient City

8/10 Good

"Nice hotel in good location, close to 3 Pagodas, Ancient Town & Cable Car Stations for trips up the mountain. Plenty of local food options within minutes"

SIXI GOLDEN SUNRISE SOUND SLEEP HOTEL

8/10 Good

"The hotel was very clean and the gentleman working behind the front desk was very friendly and tried his very best to help with questions we had about traveling around Dali. The hotel is right in the middle of Dali Ancient City, so if that's what you want the location is excellent. It's a bit of a ride to the train station, but Didi's are very affordable. The hotel is very hard to find and the translation for the name of the hotel from English to Mandarin doesn't give the right name of the hotel. It took us awhile to find the hotel and even our DiDi driver from the airport didn't know the name of the hotel, somehow we found it. It's a small boutique hotel with clean rooms, comfortable bed, and breakfast made to order. Overall it was a good stay for the price."

Wenshuo Hotel

8/10 Good

"The hotel is well located, right at the hart of historical Dali. The building has a nice design, with contemporary Chinese architecture. However, the rooms were not very functional. Overall, I had a positive experience although I'm not sure I'd recommend it."

Dali Taoxi Secret Manor

8/10 Good

"Good breakfast, the view in the breakfast area is amazing, decent dining experience. Would be super helpful if there are laundry room and fitness room. The environment outside the hotel is chaotic and not clean. Our driver Mr. Yong Zhao is very professional and nice!!!"

Dali Yanyuan Mountain Retreat（大理晏清山居客栈)

10/10 Excellent

"Location is great, service is also great than I have ever met."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Tianjing?

The best area to stay in Tianjing is the Old Town, particularly around Sifang Street and the surrounding lanes, as it offers the most authentic and convenient experience. The Old Town is the heart of Tianjing, known for its well-preserved traditional architecture, cobblestone streets, and canals. Sifang Street is the central square, a bustling hub where you'll find local shops selling handicrafts, tea houses, and restaurants. The lanes branching off Sifang Street are quieter, offering guesthouses and boutique hotels located among residential homes. It's a very walkable area, allowing you to explore the town's unique character on foot.Couples often find the Old Town ideal for a romantic and culturally rich getaway. The evening lantern-lit streets create a lovely setting for strolls, and many guesthouses offer rooms with balconies overlooking the canals, providing a peaceful retreat after a day of exploring. There are numerous intimate restaurants serving local Yunnan cuisine, great for a relaxed dinner. For solo travellers, the Old Town provides a great base for exploration and connection. The central location means easy access to local markets and cultural performances. Many guesthouses are small and personal, making it easy to meet other travellers or engage with local hosts.

When is the best time to go to Tianjing?

The best times to visit Tianjing are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months. These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring, with comfortable temperatures and less rainfall compared to the summer monsoon season.
