Great location

Posted 27-Jul-2017
Pros: The location. It is absolutely great and the lobby is beautiful.
Cons: Hallways should be painted.
Location: It is close to many points of interest: parks, museums and restaurants.
The location is ideal. The first night our room didn't seem very clean. The subsequent nights it was better. We were offered to change rooms but we needed a large one to accommodate two beds and a rollaway.

Good Location

Posted 26-Jul-2017
Pros: The location.
Cons: Needs a complete renovation.
Location: The location is right on Michigan Avenue so you can do lots of things within walking distance or a short cab ride.
The hotel was very old. The halls were old and had chipped paint on the carpet. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. The restaurant was good.

Nice to be within walking distance of many sites

I had high hopes after seeing the lobby, but was disappointed after being put in a smoking room right off the bat in the Buckingham wing. The room looked like a sad roach motel. I was moved to the North wing. The room had better furnishings, but still felt dated.

Overpriced - Unfriendly Staff

Posted 25-Jul-2017
If you want a super outdated, feels like the twins from the shining are going to murder you in the night, overpriced, with super unfriendly staff, THIS IS THE HOTE FOR YOU! The staff DEFINITELY wasn't happy about working there, but that might just be a Chicago thing. The rooms look wonderful in the pictures, but the bathrooms are terrible. Bed was nice. Television was a first gen flat screen. Food in the hotel restaurant was mediocre and ALSO ridiculously overpriced for the quality. On a positive note, the location couldn't have been better for me. I was attending an event in Grant Park which was directly across the street. The view from the room (9th floor) overlooked the lake. That was lovely. Summary. Unless this hotel gives you the perfect location for your trip, avoid it. $150+ a night for 2 star service isn't worth the trouble.

Location is the only thing keeping the lights on

Posted 24-Jul-2017
Pros: Location
Cons: Clean sheets, fix leaking shower and fix broken elevator
We are a local couple that live in the burbs. Needed a room in the city for Jimmy Buffett and the Rock and Roll Half Marathon so booked here. Check in was quick and friendly. While getting my room keys I noticed a long line for the elevator. One is out of order she said. Since we were in a rush, we hustled up the stairs to our room. We dropped our stuff off and we were out the door (and back down the stairs we went). When arriving back to the room that night, we again took the stairs because of the line for the elevator (at Midnight). We ate some food we brought back with us and went to bed. The next morning my wife noticed blood on my pillow, not mine (gross). We both took showers and water leaked out all over the floor. When leaving for the morning we tried to take the elevator again but a couple in front of us had been waiting for 15 minutes and was not able to get on due to the traffic. I'm sure they would have loved to take the stairs but had way too much luggage and a cooler. We notified the hotel about all these issues and were given a discount for our stay. Quite disappointing for such a historic and once prestigious hotel.

Hot/dirty hotel

Posted 24-Jul-2017
Pros: Lobby looks nice.
Cons: Could invest in some remodeling. See my experience for more information
Location: It was across the street from the event my buddy and I were attending.
Hotel lobby: Looked nice and Fancy. Fast checkin/checkout Elevator: looked like they needed cleaned and fixed/updated. Room Experience: AC unit could barely keep the room cool. No need for bed covers. Bathtubs plug would not stay up. I had to put a box from a bar a soap under the plug to allow water to drain. Shower water would not get hot. It was just warm enough to shower. When I went to turn on the shower head, I felt like I was going to pull out the whole faucet. The faucet should not move in a bathroom. The walls were all white walls with no pictures hanging. Some walls were dirty. Some had paint chips on them. 2/5 at best

Room was very clean but mattress in the room was extremely firm. Hotel did not make much effort to accomadate my wife (who suffers from back pain). We asked several times for some extra comforters to soften the mattress and after about 12 hours receive only thin fleece blankets. Would not recommend, will not be coming back
