Our room was on the ground floor which we asked for. It was freshly decorated and very clean. The staff were very polite and efficient.

Breakfast was a shambles. We had to clear and set our own table and member of staff was disinterested. Also food was congealed. Stayed here many times but hotel has deteriorated.

Arrived and had to wait several minutes for Reception, the hotel looked quiet. I went to my room and parts of it had not been cleaned. One of the bed side units had water spilt on it and they had marks from drinks on other parts of the room. The sink had not been cleaned properly and the towel had a hole in it. Disappointed considering this was a superior room, it did not feel like it and that somebody had previously been in the room. When I went to reception to complain there was nobody there due to the bar area being very busy. The Tv and remote control did not work correctly and often just switched off. I have stayed here several times and this was the worst experience so far.

When I arrived to check in around 6pm there was nobody on Reception & I had to wait over 10 minutes before anyone appeared. I even tried calling the Landline phone twice, nobody answered!
Also, it appeared that my booking had not been put onto the Hotel system for some unknown reason.
The room had no USB charge points which is quite old hat these days!

very old mattress, dirty bedding, dirty towels, mouldy shower area, no water pressure for shower to work above your knees, uncomfortable bed , very unpleasent stay, had originally booked to stay for the week but checked out after 1st night,

Poor Customer Service
When checking in, the reception staff totally ignored me and was extremely unattentive. Upon checking out, reception unattended. Eventually took a few separate staff members to finally be able to check out. The final staff member was very helpful and apologetic.
Lots of little things lacking over the breakfast service, main issue not enough staff.

1st night the downstairs room was very hot. Even though there was a fan, this would only circulate the warm air. 2nd night different room, the room's air con broke down! Dinner is ok, particularly if you like burgers, starters were much better. Drinks very expensive. Rooms were clean, service quite good however.
I have stayed here several times but his was certainly the best. Great check in from Keith and lovely room. Unfortunately due to work commitments i did not eat in the restaurant or frequent the bar, however its always a great experience. Breakfast was good and my check out at 4.00am was also spot on. thanks Mercure Newbury Team.
Very convenient for meeting up with my daughter the next day at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park only 10 mins away. The Food was very tasty and the hotel was in quiet and peaceful surroundings. We will definitely stay there again.
Heating system not working. Room cold on arrival. Used small electric/oil radiator which almost got the room up to acceptable temp by morning. Breakfast disappointing.
Hotel was nice and clean but lack of staff meaning alot of waiting at breakfast, bar and restaurant services but still had a pleasant stay with friends
Hotel is quite nice, doesn’t look much from the outside but much better inside. Couldn’t increase the temperature in my room above 21 degrees. Breakfast looks very nice but all of the “hot” food was actually quite cold.

Handy for the Crem!
Inattentive Staff who couldn't use the machinery to make a Coffee!
Rather disappointing and uncomfortable stay - we were staying having attended a wedding nearby so needed to iron some shirts. The first attempt to get one was forgotten about by reception, the second attempt resulted in a broken iron and the third in an iron which left brown stains all over the shirts. The room was also very tiny and left about 50cm around the bed on all sides meaning that very difficult to navigate when trying to iron a shirt. In respect of the stay itself, the bed was poor quality, very firm and could feel every spring - not what you'd expect having paid nearly £120 for one night. Also there was a loud fan being run all night directly outside the room. On check out was not even asked how the stay was - we suspect because they knew it was not going to be a glowing review 😂
No air conditioning in rooms despite what they say
We had booked a room months in advance and the booking clearly stated in more that one place that the rooms had air conditioning. When we got there the person at the front desk responded to my question about whether or not there was AC with "there should be". There was not. Turns out only some of the rooms have AC. I can not express to you how little she cared. The response was, "well we are fully booked so I don't think there is anything I can really do". Hotels.com even called them and they did nothing about it. The one thing I would say is that the hotel is fine other than that, but make sure when you book that you call and make sure that your room definitely has AC. Also, we did not eat but apparently the food is terrible. There is a great pub down the street that had really good food. Berkshire Arms.

Couldn't eat there cus some party was taken place! I wish the hotel would let you know in advance!! We end up leaving around 1.30am! Reason being they had a party and we were told the party was on until mid- night but went on till 1.30! The music was so loud even though we were at the other end of the hotel, the drums were still very loud and it upset us, we had to leave and not happy with experience we had! We will not be going back!
