"I never saw an image of the exterior of the building in the advertisement on Expedia. I never read that access to the upper floor was via a steep staircase which made carrying two suitcases to one’s room difficult. The place appears to be managed by the Wat Hotel next door but without access to the Wat’s facilities. The walls between the rooms were such that one could plainly hear conversations next door. The room was fine but the experience frankly disappointing."

"We stayed in the huge 7 bed room, with the hammock and tent. Strange, but fantastic room. Teenage boys enjoyed the popcorn maker and home theatre. Laundry area was easy to use and supplied free detergent. Breakfast was a little limited, but adequate and ok for vegetarians if you request no meat at check in. Fridge in room was stocked up with soft drinks and beers for free. Staff were always helpful and friendly. Would stay here again."

"I enjoyed the breakfast! It was one of the best breakfast so far. It had lots of choices from traditional Japanese to western choices. I appreciated it learning and tasting the Japanese breakfast as I am here to do so. The room was clean and quiet. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I wished we had a better view of the city but we got the wall and roof of the building next to us. I like that it was very close to the bus station and that we were able to leave our luggage before we checked in so we could explore the city. The staff was very helpful in providing us with information. They were also very friendly and polite. The staff is what makes a hotel experience excellent!"

We felt that the offer of the Yukatas and sleeping garments were really considerate. We enjoyed the carefully curated dishes for dinner. Really exceptional service, this is how luxury travel used to feel and sadly has been lost in many places in more modern times. Highly rated. Takayama was the highlight of our visit."
