It is family run, and the check in process was extremely efficient. The family was very responsive and friendly. The Onsen was the PERFECT temperature and absolutely clean, as were the rooms. There was a hot kettle for green tea in the room as soon as we arrived. They helped us do laundry (the drier is a bit weak, but overnight clothes dried fine in the room), figure out the heating, and fed us the BEST breakfast the next morning. Out room was on road side and was just a bit noisy in the evening as there is a bus stop right down on the street (people making noise while waiting for the bus). I would recommend for sure if you look for nice and not expensive place. If your feet start wearing out, it's a short 3 block walk to the bus station where you can catch the circle route city bus that stops at/near all the local attractions, and one that goes to the Hida village museum. The family that runs the hotel is very friendly, and they keep the establishment very clean and tidy.
