I booked this hotel with the impression that it was located in Tainan City when in fact it is in Xinying - 35 kilometres to the north of downtown Tainan. The preamble also indicates that the hotel is set on a river which it is not. It is a concrete canal at best although there would be very few rooms in the building that would take advantage of such a view anyway. The hotel itself is adequate. Xinying itself is fairly non-descript however there are pretty good night markets in the downtown area - in fact one of the better ones I visited in Taiwan. The hotel is 25 minutes walking distance of the station or else 5 mintues driving - probably about NT$40 in a taxi, which is essential to know if you want to commute to and from Tainan. Door-to-door from my room to Tainan station was 1 hour (express train) & about 80 minutes (local train). In the other direction (north) Xinying is well located to access the Guanzilin hot spring area, which is one of the premier hot spring experiences in Taiwan. It is 30 minutes driving up route 172 from the hotel or else probably NT$150-250 by taxi. Definitely a MUST if you are in the area.
The hygiene conditions is poor, lots of mosquitoes (20-30) inside the room but the bed is still clean. This is only no choice for people who want to have a bed for overnight in that district.
