Fabulous staff and neighborhood!

Posted 25-Aug-2015
Pros: The staff were wonderful. They made us feel like we were coming home each time we entered. The decor is quirky and fun.
Location: Old town Stockholm was extremely crowded with tourists in the summer. We were so glad we chose to stay in Sodermalm, which was quiet but not too quiet
This was our first visit to Stockholm. Hotel Rival in Sodermalm is across the street from a leafy park with a fountain and surrounded by bakeries and cafes. The area felt very welcoming and convenient. Lots of people walking around, but not too touristy, and close to a train station.

Excellent hotel in central location

Posted 19-Aug-2015
Pros: Everything
Cons: nothing
We spent four days in Stockholm, the hotel staff were so friendly and helpful, looked forward to the extensive breakfast every morning . Had a couple of evening meals which were equally as good. A must is a visit to the Vasa warship, also had a boat trip to the Royal Palace. Gamla Stan is a short walk from the hotel with plenty of Restaurants and shops.

Great location in a non touristy neighborhood

Posted 11-Aug-2015
Pros: Great breakfast, for an additional fee. Clean, attractive, modern room. Great, helpful staff. Quiet, peaceful environment. Decor was funky, unique.
Location: The hotel is in a block of apartments with a park across the street with a fountain, playground & park benches. Sidewalk cafés nearby & retail stores.
Really enjoyed our two night stay at the Rival. The staff were friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. The hotel has a restaurant with a balcony, or cafe on the sidewalk. Around the corner is a tapas bar that spills outside onto the patio. Down the street there are small retail shops and each block has at least one sidewalk cafe. There is a convenience store on the block and an ATM within a block. The Tbana stop is a block or two away. Everywhere we heard Swedish being spoken, except one group of English speakers from England. It felt like we had slipped away from all the tourists. Highly recommend this hotel. Close in location.

Stylish, efficient and friendly

Posted 10-Aug-2015
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Difficult to think of anything, but a more extensive dinner menu would be good.
Location: The Rival is close to everything Stockholm has to offer. The metro is a two minute stroll away, and the main line station 5 minutes further.
Over decades of staying in hotels in many of Europe's big cities, we have never enjoyed anywhere more than the Rival. It is ideally situated, in a quiet spot overlooking a small park, yet literally only 10 minutes' walk to Gamla Stan, Stockholm's beautiful old town. It is stylish, converted from what was once a 1930s Art Deco cinema, with lots of original features blending with retro touches, yet it is run with supreme efficiency. Staff are among the friendliest we've ever come across, and nothing is too much trouble. My partner, who has difficulties facing the fact that he can't read the print on most menus, was offered a basket containing a whole range of specs for him to choose from by our lovely, ever vigilant waiter. Our room was not large, but everything was carefully thought out and it was wonderfully comfortable. Excellent lighting, plenty of curtaining for those who like to sleep in total darkness, super beds, and top quality linen. The bathroom pampers the guest with underfloor heating - so no cold tiles - and two showers ideally set up for easy and luxurious ablutions. Breakfasts offer probably the best choice we can remember, including 2 containers - one for soft-boiled and one for hard-boiled eggs - and lots of varieties of home made bread. The dinner menu is limited, but delicious. Receptionists are all helpful and warm, and there is even a concierge who makes it his life's work to sort out any problems, and answer any questions. Wonderful hotel - lovely city!

Sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt

Great hotel!

Posted 6-Aug-2015
Pros: Great location, hip hotel.
Cons: It would be nice if breakfast were included in my room price as it was at other hotels in Sweden where I stayed.
Location: Good konditori on the corner where you can get breakfast, but the breakfast in the hotel was huge and fabulous (although it is not included).
I loved this hotel! It is in a good location. You can easily walk to Gamla Stan, explore Sodermalm or take a ferry to Djurgarden. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, and was even stocked with a Blu-ray player, CD's and DVD's. It also comes with a teddy bear!

Very Friendly Staff

Posted 6-Aug-2015
Pros: The staff
Cons: Housekeeping could be improved. After the first night, all our toiletries were 2/3 used and housekeeping didn't provide a new set the next day.
Location: The location is near the t-bahn station but to get there from the airport requires a few transfers (bus, train and t-bahn) if you want to save money.
The staff there was great. They helped us with the ferry and train schedule and gave us honest opinion about where to go and where to get.
