Though this is Lydia's most rustic cabin we offer, it has a special place in our hearts for all the history it holds having been built in the early 1800s. Lydia has kept this property true to its roots. The Old Damn is located just off Route 33\. This rustic cabin is perfect for families looking to reconnect and let us not forget our seasonal SipShack Icecream Shop, a public pavilion overlooking the pond, a play set with a sliding board, and even an off-leash dog park are within walking distance. The Old Dam Cabin has a private hot tub to help you wind down and relax after a day of hiking in the National Park or simply chasing the kiddos and pets around! Enter the front door from the large front porch to the living room which is equipped with the original wood-burning fireplace. The living room located on the main floor has a futon for extra sleeping options while the studio-style full bedroom is located upstairs with two built-in twin beds. The rustic cabin with the wonderful stone fireplace... the hot tub... the firepit... loved it all! We had lunch and drinks at the lodge and the staff were attentive and so nice. Definitely has a great cabin vibe, and only 5 minutes from Shenandoah entrance. Had everything we needed. I don't remember seeing a picture of the living room when booking it, so I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the cabin. He was in heaven with the added bonus of a hot tub and he loves making a fire . The light in the stairwell appears to be out. The lower ka ch on back door is broken ! It was clean, historic, and a great experience. The dog park next door was really awesome too and we especially enjoyed meeting Ashton. She is so sweet and we will be back to see her (and Jumper) and stay at a cabin on the mountain. Just a couple of suggestions for the Old Dam - it was really cold and the drafts through the front floor and windows were fierce. I wonder if when it is that cold, you just stock firewood as part of the rental. We spent a ton on firewood bc it was so cold and the fireplace and Forced heat could only do so much. I also wonder if you’d consider a wood stove instead so it heats the whole place. These are just suggestions from our perspective. Feb 3, 2025 #### Little house on the Prairie, but caution. There were several cobwebs and several rooms in several areas, and they had been there for awhile . There was also some debris in the bathroom floor. Upon leaving my boyfriend, inform me that on the first night he did find a snakeskin on the mantle when he went to start a fire. The cabin does have a lot of olld charm but under the conditions. I don't feel like I would stay there again unless they did some fixing and definitely some cleaning. And the steps were very narrow and hard to maneuver. You had to use caution when going down them because they were very small and narrow. I did book a couple's massage and the lady was fantastic. I believe her name was jessica and that was really a great service.She was very nice and very professional. Also visited the lodge and the restaurant there., and that was very nice. ##### Becky H. Dec 9, 2025 #### Heating unit malfunction Hello! We always enjoy our annual stay at the Old Dam Cabin, but unfortunately this year the heating malfunctioned. The vents blew warm air the first night, but after all the snow and ice it began only blowing cold air even though it was set to 75°. We tried the emergency heat setting, but that did not seem to help either. By the morning of our final day, the thermostat said it was 58° inside. Pros: clean, relaxing hot tub; rustic charm; large, well-stocked kitchen; peaceful atmosphere; plenty of room to spread out; plenty of firewood and kindling to make two or three fires; convenient to the Lydia Mountain restaurant (also a good value, though the desserts are pricey); front-desk staff was helpful and friendly; shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water Cons: mattress and futon are both on the firm side, which might not be comfortable for you; there are a few low beams and anyone over six feet tall needs to watch their head; bring your own lighter for the fireplace; you have to clear your own trash and the directions to the dumpsters are not relative to the cabin itself; we couldn't walk anywhere from the cabin since the surrounding land is dense scrub; if you don't push the coffee pot up against the machine to allow coffee to filter into the pot, it overflows (please replace this!); bathroom sink's water pressure is lousy ##### Robert P.
