We booked this cottage based on location, description and price. The owner was very responsive to all inquiries and very easy to work with. The beach cottage is not exactly as described on VRBO as "newly renovated bungalow". The kitchen is the only room that has been renovated, the rest of the cottage does have fresh paint but, the living area furniture is old and tired, the bedroom has old carpet with the tack strip nails poking through the threshold into the bathroom, it looks like a dog had chewed the legs on the little eating table as well as the back of the front door and the outside car port has lots of junk from the renovation and work on the main house. So, I would hardly say "newly renovated". The definite plus for the cottage is its location and privacy. It is a simple, one bedroom cottage tucked back behind the main house and is very private and quite. East Beach is a wonderful residential neighborhood and the beach is a short walk away; however, I would suggest you use a beach caddie to carry your beach equipment. When we checked into the cottage, we were very disappointed with the lack of cleanliness of the cottage.. There were several dirty dishes in the kitchen, the open shelves in the kitchen were dusty, the kitchen counter and stove top were dirty, there was some dirt/food on the wall above the little table and the floor needed sweeping. We ended up having to spend an hour cleaning the place before we felt comfortable using the place. That being said, once we cleaned the place up, we had a wonderful week at the cottage and SSI. ##### Ken S. Jun 9, 2020 Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy Disliked: Cleanliness #### Okay, but we had a few issues I never leave reviews, but I felt I needed to address a couple of issues with the property. I want to start by saying that we stayed here last year, and it was great. The property was clean last year, and it was the perfect size place for my family. This year upon our arrival, we noticed the property was not nearly as clean as it was for our previous stay. When we arrived, my husband noticed some trash that was thrown out the back door by the previous guest. There was also food left in refrigerator by the previous guest as well as a dirty pan left on the stove, and the dishes were not clean. The cleaning service didn't clean these before we arrived. My husband wondered if the bed linens had been changed by the cleaning service, but there was a spare set of bed linens and we changed them to sleep. He took photos of everything upon our arrival in case there were any issues so that we could show the condition of the property when we got there if we needed to. I'm not one to complain so I didn't bother the owner with the issues. Since we had been quarantined our family was just glad to be on vacation, and we just dealt with it. I always try to leave the property in good condition when we leave. I swept the property the night before we left the next morning and I stripped the bed linens and put them in a pile with the dirty towels for the cleaning service's convenience. I'm not sure why there was such a difference. I would think there would almost have to be a change in the cleaning company from last summer. The owner has always been such a great host. That is why we booked the property to stay there again this year. We still had a great time, and the location is fantastic. It’s very well taken care of and the rental company is super easy to work with. We will be back but will probably stay somewhere on the beach next time… or rent a golf cart to get around, as it does seem a bit far in the heat for bikes to get to pier, shopping, beach, etc. ##### John S. Very comfortable with nice bed linens, comfortable seating in living area and good hvac control. Kitchen had all we needed. Very quiet and near family. I stayed 12 nights. This was the perfect tranquil location for me to reclaim my motivation and recharge. The cottage afforded me all the necessary amenities. The beach was a short 5 minute walk. Otherwise the property itself is well used: chipped plates, bleached stained towels, lumpy sofa. Window AC that had a musty smell when turned on. But everything was very clean and everything worked; I can deal with the rest as this obviously is a great price for a 1-2 person rental on this end of St. Simons. ##### Julie P. Positives were the cottage is located in a nice, walkable neighborhood and a few blocks from the beach. As described on the site this is a clean, older, one bedroom cottage, comfortable and suitable for 2 people and our dog. Negatives were there is no yard (besides the driveway), no beach chairs, yard was not raked, small charcoal grill which wasn't clean, no lids for the pots. Owner was responsive when we had a problem with a drain and quickly fixed the issue. ##### Nancy R. Biggest downside for us was total lack of ventilation. Every window is painted shut and there wasn't a screen to be seen. 2 noisy air conditioners put on "fan only" were the only option for fresh air but we had to shut them off to sleep. Mostly peaceful area until weekend when we had to ask rowdy renters in next door pool to stop yelling at 1:30am. ##### Rick C.
