Horrible... put us in a noisy room where there was

Posted 20-May-2017
We requested a quiet room there were only 50% full. We were put on the 1st floor near a back door. There were very beight lights over the door that could not be blocked put by any curtain. The drapes were ripped and the room was so bright you could read. People were Coming in and out of The back door all night. We Did call and complain but they wanted to move us... who wants to move in the middle of the night when your getting up in a few hours to leave. The manager wetalked to was rude and acted like we were making it up. They offered no compensation. In addition there was a constant thumping all night... I will not use expedia again!!!!!!

Unique ambiance. Friendly staff. Very quiet.

We loved the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Staff was quick to fix a problem when the tub jets weren't working properly. My only complaint was that I wish there were more healthy options at breakfast such as a plain yogurt without sugar and a whole grain cold cereal.

Close to University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus

Posted 10-May-2017
Pros: The location, cleanliness, price, looks, and staff.
Cons: The breakfast could use a lot of improvement!
Stayed at this hotel every year in high school for FFA state convention so I booked it right away when I needed to stay close to campus. As always, the hotel was very clean and well kept up. The hotel is really impressive since it looks like it is built inside an old train depot. It was just a short car ride from the state fair grounds and the St. Paul campus and it is really in a quiet part of town. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. The one thing that hasn't changed is the breakfast is not great. I went over the weekend and the muffins, donuts, and english muffins were out or almost out every day. The juice machine was not set right so the apple juice was water and the orange juice was super thick. Plus the breakfast is in this little tiny building that two people back to back can BARELY fit in to get breakfast.

Wonderful employees, fabulous hotel!

Posted 1-May-2017
Pros: The employees are the best part about this hotel!! The breakfast spread is amazing as well, and the pool rules are enforced which is a big plus.
Cons: I found my room to be a bit cold even at the highest temperature setting, so glad I brought extra clothes!
Location: The location of this hotel is very convenient to downtown St. Paul, various college and university campuses, and many nearby restaurants.
This hotel is fabulous and the best part is the employees!! Every employee is polite and helpful with a smile every time. Our room was well set up and comfortable, and the towels are fluffy and large. The complimentary breakfast is phenomenal and there is something for everyone, which can be hard to find. The pool is well kept and the rules are enforced which is highly appreciated as well. I did find that my room was a bit chilly but I also know that is a personal preference and not anything wrong with the hotel.

Friendly staff, but worn out facility.

Posted 30-Apr-2017
Pros: Historic design. The staff was friendly.
Cons: The entire condition of the facility, but especially the individual rooms.
Location: The location is near our relative's home and is very convenient to many things.
Classy, historic motel. The staff from the front desk to the breakfast helpers were all wonderful. However, the room was really rundown and in disrepair. The toilet was plugged and remained so overnight until about 10:00 the next day. We were forced to leave the room and use the public facilities near the pool. We were just about to report it (morning) when it all of the sudden gurgled and flushed, which makes me wonder if the plug was somewhere outside the room and in main pipes. The bath faucet would not work, so if you wanted a bath you had to fill it via the shower. When you did, flakes of metal fell to the tub floor from somewhere. The border around the woodwork was all off and sitting around, the curtain movers were also off and sitting on the floor. I know they were full, but even so, the breakfast area was WAY overcrowded. The food was very good, though. We have stayed here several times before, including hosting an entire wedding party and guests some years ago. However, it seems to keep running down without updates or repair.

Close to the Fairgrounds/Very Convenient

Posted 24-Apr-2017
This was a pleasant surprise. The room was clean and neat. The motif of the hotel was charming. I wish it wasn't just an overnight. My only issue was that parking was packed and I had farther to walk than I would have liked upon check in. Otherwise, it was really pleasant.

First time stay here: really liked location...

Posted 22-Mar-2017
Pros: Location and rooms...if you have kids with you then they will love the indoor pool.
Cons: Breakfast was below standard to your competition.
Location: Great shopping and restaurants either North or South of your location.
Great room, free parking easy access to what I needed for my event downtown and also to other local areas.
