Had a great time!

Posted 16-Jan-2017
We enjoyed Simpson Bay. Our room was perfect for us, we weren't in it much but it was roomy and quiet. We loved the location of the property, the restaurants on the property and the cleanliness of the property. We have already decided to go back to St. Maarten and we will certainly be staying there again!

Layover in St.Maarten made uncomfortable

Posted 9-Jan-2017
Location: Casino on property (a turn-off for me), some not-so-nice restaurants within property, some more dining and other options within 10-20 mins walk
I've decided to stop in St.Maarten for a day on my way home after the holidays. This was a spontaneous solution, so there has been no time for research, and not too many options left. Looking at the map, the hotel seemed quite close to the beach Arrival was in the evening, so I just needed to go to bed. Taxi from the airport was 15 min drive and cost something like $12. Check-in quick and easy, but then there was a so-called on property shuttle. It took about 5 min of waiting time, and under 30 seconds of the actual drive (20 metres of upward sloping road). The driver has left me at some rear entrance by a construction and showed me at an open back door saying that I should simply go through there and up one flight of stairs. This was funny, because if you travel light like me then you don't need the shuttle at all, but if you have lots of luggage then going up the stairs with all of it is not at all that convenient. The room was clean and rather comfortable, with a small kitchen etc. Bedding and towels (there have been plenty of those) are acceptable. So straight I went to the bed. Issue is that when I woke up at 4am and wanted a glass of water, there was none available. Not in the room, not in the whole resort. Reception apparently didn't have any either (as if nobody drinks water in the whole resort). I mean this shows you the hospitality culture. Nearby 24hr drive-thru was also closed :-) , but 20 mins of walking and a bottle of water was in my hand. Happy end )))

Fine Lodgings on St. Maarten

Posted 8-Jan-2017
Pros: The kitchen in the unit I stayed in looked well stocked and easy to cook in. I liked that you definitely feel like you are in the Caribbean.
Cons: Simple signage to guide people to main areas if they are walking.
Location: I simply stayed overnight to catch the ferry to Anguilla in the morning after a late night flight in to SXM -so do not know.
The staff was courteous and cordial. They accommodated my special request without fuss. The Simpson Bay Resort is very spread out and a bit confusing. There are shuttles to transport you - but the sprawling complex was overwhelming. The view of the sea from the lobby is lovely. The pool and tennis courts look great. FYI - the resort charges a $250. deposit on a credit card upon check in.

Nice hotel near lots to do

Posted 27-Dec-2016
Loved it! Huge facility with many restaurants and a grocery store on site. Room was spacious. Wifi was a little spotty in the room. It works but it's not the fastest. Phone in the room is pretty expensive to use. You're walking distance from shops, more restaurant, beach, and a lot more stuff so the location is perfect.

For those who like big resorts, this one is probably a nice option for a not too expensive stay. Several restaurants on the premises, sand beaches with beach bars, pools with bars, parking available.
