Now featuring a commercial-grade generator for power backup! There have been significant power disruptions territory-wide but not here! Welcome back to Bambooshay, St. John! We are so happy to have Bambooshay built again after a long three years since it was lost to Hurricane Irma. Bigger, better and much stronger than before, Bambooshay Villa has all the amenities of a luxury hotel but without the crowds! This house is more than a vacation rental - it is our home. You will note the exquisite attention to detail we put into every aspect of the new villa when you arrive. We will retire here fully one day but for now we are happy to share it with you! Bambooshay is a spacious two bedroom, two bath villa that can sleep five people comfortably. There is a California King in the master bedroom and a Queen in the second bedroom. Both bedrooms have private ensuite bathrooms. There is also a double sized pull-out couch in the living room that can accommodate a fifth person. \*There is an additional fee of $50 per night for the 5th person. Bambooshay is fully equipped with a commercial grade automatic generator and air conditioning in both bedrooms. It has a gourmet kitchen with quartz countertops, solid wood cabinets, slate floors, stainless appliances (refrigerator/freezer, oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher) and a full-sized washer and dryer. The villa is completely stocked with linens, bath towels, beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, a blender, toaster, Keurig, regular coffee maker, small food processor, cooking utensils, pots and pans, paper towels and toilet paper. Everything you need to make yourself at home during your stay! When walking out onto the deck, overlooking Coral Bay, you and your guests will enjoy dipping in the cool saltwater pool, soaking in a SoftTub hot tub, cooking on the grill or just relaxing with a beverage of your choice while taking in the views. “Bambooshay” is a Creole word that means “enjoy yourself; have a good time.” Coined during Carnival season in the 1950’s, the word originates from “Bambula,” an old African dance that is carried out today through a unique “second line” dance that is performed to the beat of traditional New Orleans jazz. Revelers during carnival today are often heard yelling out “Bambooshay!” as they partake in the festivities of the season. In a single word, Bambooshay embodies the spirit and attitude that we have found from the Caribbean to New Orleans, and we truly hope you will enjoy yourself and have a great time on St. John. Bambooshay! Bambooshay Villa is located on Seagrape Hill in Coral Bay. Turn onto Seagrape Hill Road directly across from the fire station (if you get to Skinny Legs you went too far). Paved all the way, the villa is located four switchbacks up Seagrape. Turn left before the "First Left" sign at the turquoise gate. Pull into the cul-de-sac and the first villa on the right, with the white gate, is Bambooshay! We are ideally located between the best of the north shore beaches and those less traveled on the east end of the island. Your toes can be in the water within a 10 minute drive in either direction! The home is solid, literally and figuratively. The kitchen is spacious and was a joy to cook in. The appliances were top notch and I cooked on the outside Weber grill several times. The pool was the perfect size and could not have been cleaner. My husband enjoyed the hot tub, as he runs cold, even in tropical weather. The elevation of the home ensures that you get the breezes, it's lovely. Tammy, the manager was available momentarily by text or call and was pleasant. We could not be more pleased with the home! The pictures understate the beauty of the home and stunning views. The changing light of the sun during the day brought a beautiful new view of Coral Bay to enjoy every hour. The home is wonderfully equipped with all the little details, kitchen equipment etc to allow us to feel at home immediately. The pool and separate hot tub were used every day and the natural trees, bamboo and shrubs surrounded the home in privacy and added to the secluded, remote experience of Coral Bay we were seeking. We are animal lovers and so the plethora of chickens and goats roaming about was as added bonus. The property manager, Tammy, was super helpful and attentive before, during and after our stay. The quiet, secluded area was just perfect after being in Cruz Bay for a few days. The villa is close enough to plenty of restaurants, hikes, and activities while still feeling like you’re in the middle of nowhere. View from the porch in the morning is absolutely insane. I want coffee there every day!! Pool and hot tub were a nice excuse to stay in and relax on both hit or cold days. We rented a boat right in coral bay and got to explore all the coves, snorkel, and of course hit Lime Out. The house is set up perfectly for 2 couples or a small family. AC was great, and all the appliances you need in great condition. Definitely need a good car to get up the hill to the property. Can’t wait to go back!! ##### Hannah H. Very comfortable and of course, a stellar view from the heights of this property. Access road had four very tight switchbacks that we were unable to navigate in the rain one night, despite having a jeep with 4 wheel drive. It was quite terrifying to fishtail and backslide on such a steep grade in the dark! We were also surprised to discover that we were supposed to wash the bedding and towels and clean all the dishes before we left. Disposing of the garbage maybe made sense, but the price does include a cleaning fee, after all. ##### Pam K. Scott and Tammy were wonderful to work with and we plan on staying again whenever we come back to St. John. The villa was nice, clean, and had everything we would need. Our favorite part was the outside area. We spent most of our time while at the villa either hanging on the deck enjoying the beautiful views, swimming, or in the hot tub. My favorite thing about the villa was being able to swim under the stars! Truly felt like a paradise dream! ##### Kayleigh W. Perfectly located. Perched high on a hill with all the privacy one could ask for yet easy access to trails, grocery and restaurants. Located on the quiet end of the island. Views from the deck overlooking the perfectly sized infinity pool are world class. Tammy, the property manager, was the perfect host. Top notch communication and always willing to help with anything needed. The villa was well decorated and the view was phenomenal! When we were not out and about, we spent hours and hours in the pool, the hot tub and on the deck. The property has two well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms with working AC units. The pool/hot tub are small but perfect for a dip. Perfect location <10 min drive to all the major restaurants in Coral Bay (not super walkable due to the steep incline of the drive up). They also have three snorkel sets, a cooler, and four beach chairs to borrow along with many beach towels. Loved staying on this side of the island and would definitely stay here again! ##### Katie P. The hot tub was a primary reason for booking this villa, so we were quite disappointed that it could not be activated, never got over 95-degrees, and the jets were not working. The pool was unheated and far too cold to be enjoyable. We never did figure out how to control the living/dining room lights (with a remote) without impacting the ceiling light in the bedroom off the kitchen. The property manager, Tammy, was exceptional. She tried to get the hot tub working and treated the water, but it never was clear. She met us at the property and showed us how everything worked, checked in on us via text, took us grocery shopping, and we retained her for a tour of the island. We chose not to rent a vehicle because we were not comfortable driving on the left. It is not feasible to walk up or down Seagrape Hill to catch a bus (unless you are a marathoner), but we found two taxi drivers willing to accommodate us. Keep in mind that fares are per person and ran $15-20 each way, and luggage fees were additional. We would gladly stay at Bambooshay Villa again, IF the hot tub was in working order. We really enjoyed the Coral Bay side of St. John and agreed that having a vehicle is clearly advantageous! ##### Sheryl H. The house is a perfect 2 bedroom 2 bath for 2 couples or family with 2 small children. You’ll need to rent a car as Coral Bay is fairly remote, but the privacy and access to Hanson Bay (14 min), Salt Pond (14 min), Maho (12 min), & Francis Bay (12 min) are both excellent. House is well stocked. We made smoothies daily and hung in the jacuzzi nightly. There is a grocery albeit small and a smattering of eateries. And if interested in Skinny Legs, I’m not sure if you could get closer (Although not walkable for most due to the incline to and from). ##### Michael W. There are plenty of local bars and restaurants in Coral Bay and you’re a half hour to Cruz Bay. The house manager was communicative and responsive. Can't say enough good things about this place. The View! The Pool! The extras were icing on the cake. We took full advantage of the provided snorkel gear, beach chairs, beach towels, and ice chest. Since you're reading reviews on this place, go ahead and book it! You will not be disappointed. The Coral Bay area has plenty of markets and restaurants so don't be afraid to stay on this "slower" side of the island.
