The restaurant staff are very nice and friendly, however the hotel is very dated and i now discovered I have bites from bed bugs all over my feet, which is now ruining the first days of my holidays. A nice place to stay with great views however cleanliness comes first, so it’s a no go.

Overall okay but very bad service
Hotel was okay until we wanted to leave to Columbo and were trying to get an Uber but there was a few youngsters outside that sent every car away because they wanted us to take them for 3 times the price when we went to the hotel guy for help he offered to get us a taxi from the hote for an even more ridicules price and he would help us out with at all we honestly did not feel safe at that point and it was very disappointing how they didn’t wanna help us saying we welcome to call police but there’s nothing they can do

Beautiful place right on the beach.. The pool/restaurant area has the most amazing view of the ocean. Our breakfast was included and was definitely a highlight of our whole trip! The staff was very helpful always greeting us with smiles on their faces!

The view was okay, staff was alright! But the tv didn’t work and had only 6 channels which is a bummer! And the food wasn’t that good. Overral not happy with the venue.

Extremely friendly staff, very prompt and helpful. Even their other property cantaloupe levels is great... It's relatively new and hence has much better amenities. This place is about 6 kms from main unawatuna Beach so keep that in mind.

Loved staying here !
This hotel is great. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and hard working. The rooms are clean and are cleaned daily. I highly recommend getting the breakfast ( we booked it online which included brekky) it was great with fruit platters, fresh fruit juices, eggs and other options to. The fact that the hotel is right on the beach is amazing. It’s great to wake up to and it’s great water to walk down and swim in. The pool is really clean, it’s fairly small But the images on the website are true to the hotel.

This hotel is a little oasis and we loved every minute of being there. Staff were so friendly and professional, the view is out of this world and the room was gorgeous and clean. 10/10! When we come back to Sri Lanka we will stay here again.

Our room was lovely and had a view of the ocean, which was an amazing view to wake up to, and the sound of the waves helped us sleep easily as well. The breakfast was delicious and made even better by the view of the ocean again as you’re seated right by it. The hotel doesn’t exactly have a private beach though as the beach chairs and sand take up a small area in the hotel and are not connected to the actual beach and ocean. There is a short (one foot tall) wall and a lot of large rocks in between. The poool is a bit small as well. However, it is no a big deal because the hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from large beaches that were quite empty. There is a beach on the left and on the right of the hotel. I would suggest future guests and to go to the beach that is on the left of the hotelvwhen facing the ocean (further from Galle Fort) since it seems closer and larger.

Nice Staff, Not a 4 Star Hotel
The hotel staff is incredibly nice, and accommodating. However, this is not a 4 star hotel. If you are accustomed to 4 star hotels, you may want to consider staying elsewhere. At best, this hotel is a 3 star hotel. Our room did not feel "clean", and there were ants in our room. The floors in the rooms need to be replaced, and the hotel needs new paint. The pool area was filled with leaves. Our tv did not work, and after calling about the issue 6 times, I was provided with no solution or alternative. I awoke at 3am to retrieve ice, and was told by the security guard, there was no one on staff. I understand this is a small hotel, however, anything can happen in the middle of the night, and to not have any staff present, did not sit well with me. The food at this hotel is very tasty, and you are able to have the breakfast included in your room, which is a very nice accommodation. If you are looking for a hotel with good food, and a hotel right on the beach, this is the hotel for you. If you are more accustomed to updates, and 4 star service, you may wish to consider an alternate hotel.

This hotel is not as nice as pictured. The room itself is great but the property isn’t and the area isn’t great either. The pool is super small, there’s no actual beach, and it’s a bit run down in general. The staff was super nice though. I was unhappy about my stay and the construction on the beach taking place right outside my room and in front of the only outside lounge tea so I switched properties.

Great food, beautiful view, some traffic noise.
This was our second stay at Cataloupe Aqua, we had great memories of our balcony over the sea and delicious food at their restaurant. The standard of the rooms really varies, so if you book a standard room, you could wind up in a smallish room which abuts the highway, and although it can’t be seen from the windows or balcony, you’ll sure hear it! Sri Lankan drivers seem to drive with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the horn! If you are not sensitive to noise, then it’s fine but I found it really unpleasant. The next morning we moved to a much larger room at the other end of the hotel and it was pure bliss. The windows and balcony are mere feet from the sea and the sound of the waves lapping was delicious! The resort is 5 mins by tuk tuk to Unawatuna shops and restaurants. The beach outside is almost deserted and really clean with a good stretch of about 3.5km which provides an excellent running or walking track for those so inclined. The food was as I remembered it - absolutely fabulous! We ate most of our meals by the pool and the variety, quality, presentation and flavours were amazing. The general manager, the reception staff, restaurant staff and everyone we encountered, were really friendly and helpful. Except for the noise of the first night, we really enjoyed our stay

Not exactly in Unawatuna but in Talpe area. No amenities around the hotel. Lovely small hotel with friendly staff. Can’t swim in the sea as there is no beach.

Needs some TLC for it to be 4 star. Would rate it 3 star, it is a bit run down.Resturant staff were lovely but the service was very slow. One guy at check in was a bit rude.

A gem you will not forget
Cantaloupe Aqua is an amazing welcoming hotel near Galle. The staff and service were exceptional and facilities were fantastic. It is situated a few mins away from the more touristy spots, and that is the best part - it's quiet and peaceful here. The beach is a few minutes walk down the road, and a quick tuk tuk to unawathuna or Galle fort puts you into the middle of the action, but let's you come back to a nice quiet hotel at the end of the evening. The hotel is next to the ocean as well and the sounds of the ocean will out you to sleep before you know it. The staff is the best example of Sri Lankan hospitality, you feel like you're staying at a friend's home and not a hotel. The chef came out each night and prepared customized delicious meals - where else do you get that level of service. This is the place I would send any of my friends to if they were travelling to Sri Lanka. Highly recommended for a truly amazing experience.

This hotel was amazing. We went April and it was quiet and very few people staying. Its right on the beach with breath taking views. We enjoyed our stay and was made extra special by Sandun who served us drinks, breakfast and evening meals

Relaxing away from it all break.
This is a wonderful boutique style hotel where the staff are professional, courteous and very helpful. The hidden gem is the quality of the food. I was expecting routine hotel, but the food here far surpasses that with high quality local produce cooked in interesting ways. Highly recommend it for this and the quirkiness of the rooms. The setting is spectacular right on the ocean with waves crashing and the sound always there. As the ocean is choppy and there is a strong current snorkelling straight from the beach isn't really an option. For whale viewing tour highly recommend Raja and the Whales in Marissa - 30 minutes away by Tuk Tuk. Will definitely return if I can.

Beautiful and serene
Pros: One of the most beautiful and serene resorts we have come across till date. Located right next to the ocean, the places has an unmistakable charm which strikes you the minute you enter. We spent all our time just lounging in the resort. The view from our room was breath taking. The hotel staff is friendly and smiling and made us feel very comfortable. Cons: if you are a vegetarian, the options are pretty limited. Since there are no eating places within walking distance, we were forced to eat the same 2-3dishes in the resort over and over again. Due to high tide, the private beach of the resort was closed. This was not conveyed to us at any point at the time of booking. Drinking water was exhorbitantly priced at 5 times the mrp.

Great location but needs some attention
We had 3 nights there that were very pleasant! You can't get closer to the water. Unfortunately, the private beach that was so appealing was under water and apparently this happens every year for 2 months. The rooms were nice but the outside needed a clean and paint. I would definitely go back provided the beach was accessible.

great hotet disappointed in the tax charge.
What a nice hotel. Great view weather was perfect. I was disappointed in there Wi-Fi was really bad. We were move from our room the another room. Which was still OK. The only disappointment we had was they had tax on everything you buy. Which was so upsetting. Tax on food tax on drinks tax on service tax on snacks. Besides the tax, we had a great stay overall.

Comfortable hotel and friendly staff. It's quite a way out of Unawatuna - so a 10-15min Turk tuk ride is required from train station. Other than that it's right on the beach with a great view.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a very comfortable room and bed. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, and we were given a bottle of wine and a slice of chocolate cake, which I thought was very generous. Yes, the pool is small, but the resort isn’t very big so there are not many people around. The beach is quiet and beautiful. If you go for the duplex room, just note that the stairs are quite steep. Lovely food, wonderful people.

Small hotel, small pool, but right on sandy beach with good sized rooms and high quality restaurant. Beach has some surf like most in the area but is fine for casual swimming.

Everything was perfect!
Loved everything about Cantaloupe Aqua! The location on its own private, white sand beach away from the crowds and the chaos, where the only sound was the waves crashing just a few metres from our balcony. Room was really spacious and comfortable with king bed on mezzanine and sitting area and bathroom on lower level. Beautiful wet edge pool, plenty of sun beds and direct access to beach. Food was fantastic and service friendly and helpful.

This is a small hotel with fresh clean rooms, the food was excellent- the best we had in Sri Lanka. We loved how chilled this place was & that you had a big stretch of quiet sand to ourselves. This does sit on its own a bit so if you want a party it's not for you as not much going on but very good for chilling out! The staff are very friendly with reasonable language. Service is not the fastest but not bad just the Sri Lankan laid back way.

great concept and modern feel - room cramped even though bedroom was on mezzanine level- the stairs were narrow and the entrance awkward to negotiate. Had to keep suitcases downstairs . Bathroom was very tiny . Staff were lovely and helpful and thanks to Anna guest relations manager who took the time to introduce herself and make us feel welcome.

Very nice hotel
Very nice hotel as close to the sea as you could possibly be. The rooms were very clean and comfy, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious.
