Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Shimotakeshi?

The best area to stay in Shimotakeshi is around Yudanaka Onsen and Shibu Onsen, which are known for their traditional Japanese inns (ryokans) and hot springs.Yudanaka Onsen is the more developed of the two, acting as a gateway to the region. It offers a range of accommodation options, from large ryokans with modern amenities to smaller, family-run establishments. The main street has several shops and restaurants, and it's the closest onsen town to the train station, making it very convenient for arrivals and departures.Couples looking for a relaxing retreat will find Shibu Onsen particularly appealing. This charming, historic village is a short bus ride or a pleasant walk from Yudanaka and is famous for its nine public bathhouses, which guests of local ryokans can use. Strolling through its narrow, cobbled streets in a yukata (traditional Japanese robe) is a quintessential experience. Many ryokans here offer private onsens as well, providing a more intimate bathing experience. For families, staying in Yudanaka Onsen offers more convenience with its direct train access and a wider variety of dining options.
