"My spouse and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Izukyu! I'm already planning to come back later in the summer. My Japanese is limited so we really appreciated the staff doing their best to explain policies in English. We stayed in a Japanese style room, it was huge and had everything we needed and more - and the view of the ocean was fantastic! We also took advantage of the private onsen, highly recommend. Buffet breakfast had a ton of great options, and we appreciated how large the dining room...

"GOOD: The hotel is right on a beautiful sandy beach. It's a bit remote from bars, restaurants etc. The rooms are fairly large. The food was above average though not great. NOT SO GOOD: The hotel is very old and really needs to be torn down and rebuilt-especially to be charging as much as they are. I think the prices they are asking are ridiculous. My wife and I enjoyed our stay here-it's not terrible. But FOR THE PRICE I was disappointed "

"Bedrooms were spacious. The decor was a little tired but not too perfect for family occupation! Service was good; the staff made every effort to make us feel comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent- it had lots of choice. Situation was good with views and access to a safe bay. It would have been nice to have longer hours than 9 to 5 at the pool. "

"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. Some of the staff spoke some English. Bathhouse, arcade, and hotel amenities were great. Walking distance to everything downtown and easy spot to drive to other locations. Would definitely stay here again with family on vacation. "

"Nice traditional rooms - clean and good-sized. Loved the onsen/bath! Right on an easy bus route 3 stops /6 minutes from Shimoda station and another 5 stops/10 mins or so to Shirahama Beach. Cons - no wi-fi in rooms. Staff not very welcoming or friendly. There’s a Jonathon's family restaurant and a 7-11 but other than that very limited dining options within walking distance but Shimoda is very sleepy so without a car your options are pretty limited unless staying in the ‘city’ "
