I was never able to stay at this property. Approximately three hours before my scheduled check-in, I received an email from Expedia stating that the hotel was overbooked and that my reservation had been cancelled. After repeatedly attempting to reach the hotel by phone, I was finally able to speak with them. The hotel staff confirmed over the phone that my reservation had been cancelled due to overbooking and that they could not accommodate me. Because Expedia cancelled my reservation on the day of check-in, I was forced to secure a last-minute replacement hotel on New Year’s Eve, while being hours away from home. I would not recommend to book this place to anyone. My money has not been refunded yet and I am having to spend hours on the phone trying to get my money back. The Black Sands Inn offered a wonderful stay right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. I had some trepidation about the self-check in process, but all went well. The exterior of the building needs some TLC, but my room was clean, beautifully appointed, and comfortable. I enjoyed the meditative sound of the ocean, walks around the small community of Shelter Cove, and conversations with some of the local residents.
