Playful Paws Cabin is a great location to try out Dollywood — Now known for the first winged roller coaster in the country. The ride delivers a heart-stopping twist on regular roller-coaster seats. Seats jut out on either side of the track, so have nothing above or below them but air — giving them a real sensation of flying as they scream at more than 60 mph through four inversions and a zero-gravity roll. Of course, the 200-foot-high coaster’s cars are built to look like the national bird. Some of our favorite hikes are: Mingo Falls Mingo Falls is on the Cherokee Indian Reservation (Qualla Boundary), just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. No special permits are required for access to the reservation. At 120 feet tall, the waterfall is one of the tallest and most spectacular in the southern Appalachians. The hike to the waterfall is only 0.4 miles in length, but is considered moderate in difficulty. Access Trail: Pigeon Creek Trail Trailhead: From Oconaluftee Visitor Center, drive south (toward Cherokee) on US-441 and take the second left onto Big Cove Road. At the first stop sign turn left and drive 4.5 miles to Mingo Falls Campground, where the trail begins. Juney Whank Falls Juney Whank Falls is divided into an upper and lower section. Both can be viewed from the footbridge which crosses Juney Whank Branch at the falls. Together they drop 90 feet from top to bottom. The trail to the waterfall is 0.8 miles roundtrip and is considered moderate in difficulty. Grotto Falls Trillium Gap Trail meanders through an old-growth hemlock forest and actually runs behind the 25 foot high waterfall. The cool, moist environment near the falls is ideal for salamanders and summer hikers. The hike is 3 miles roundtrip and considered moderate Trailhead: From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail to stop #5 where there is a large parking area. This one is close and absolutely beautiful. I last hiked it with my 60 year old mother and 4 nieces and nephews ranging in age from 3-11 years old. We saw 3 bears at a distant, swam in the reflective pool of the falls, and had a fun-filled day without over doing it. Reserve your stay at Peaceful Paws Cabin by submitting your dates. As first-time Vrbo users (and long-time resort and hotel people), we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to vacation rentals. This cabin was the perfect mix of cozy and spacious, with plenty of games to keep the family entertained and room to relax. The location was a major highlight—secluded enough for that peaceful mountain vibe but still close to everything we wanted to explore. It truly gave us the best of both worlds. We went to the arts and crafts district of Gatlinburg only 10 mins away, where we ate and shopped the most unique finds. The cabin was extremely clean and well cared for. We had a family of 5 and was surprised how roomy the living space is. We enjoy all the extra touches the owner has added to make the cabin sparkle. The place was just so comfortable and the stay was fun and easy. We had a terrific time in the game room and just exploring the neighborhood. ##### Aiden M. The upstairs kept the boys busy and happy. The layout of the cabin is wonderful, it’s gives you the feeling that you would love to have one of your own. The games upstairs were a great bonus. The only thing I will say is the GPS does not take you to the cabin. It takes you down the road a bit but super easy to find based on the house number. The kitchen was clean the hot tub was clean. I wish there had been more towels. The cabin was smaller than we thought from the pics, but it was nice. The cabin is smaller than the pictures show but it was nice and cozy for the 2 of us. The back deck was nice to sit on the porch swing during a rain shower. There is a hot tub there also but we did not use it. We had a wonderful visit despite the cooler weather! I would recommend this cabin. ##### Scott L. It looks just like the pictures I saw. I loved the swing on the back porch. I sat there for an hour or so at sunset last night. I love all the windows in the bedroom too because they let in great morning sunshine and it’s beautiful at dusk. It was great that it had games and such in the loft. The stairs for the loft are a bit steep and can be scary going down when you are short like me. It has a beautiful view up there. We missed the cabin the first time we arrived as the bushes blocked it from sight. Once we turned around, it was easy to find. It is close to the roads on both sides, so there is some traffic noise, but nothing that disturbed our sleep. We did have an issue with the upstairs shower leaking into the master bedroom. We informed the rental company, but didn't hear back from them. All four of us shared the downstairs bathroom shower after that to avoid damage to the cabin. That was an inconvenience. ##### Robyn F. Bed is very comfortable. We never could get the TV to work correctly. The owner was responsive with instructions, but maybe my wife and I aren’t tech savvy enough (60s). I think basic cable or Direct TV would make it much easier for guests to enjoy the television. Aside from that, we had a great time. The scenery is unsurpassed, a gorgeous part of America that everyone should experience. Cabin supplies all that is necessary for a great time. Would definitely rent again. We arrived at 3:30 a.m. after driving 11 hours to the cabin. The temp outside was 37 degrees and there was no heat on in the cabin. It was 44 inside the cabin so it took it a LONG time to warm up. Wish the heat would have been turned on prior to our arrival. The road may not be a main highway but it is very busy road and since the bedrooms with lots of windows face that road it is very noisy and it sits at the top of a hill so traffic climbing that hill is very noisy. I understand it’s a pet friendly cabin(which was a plus for us) and I understand those aren’t always the best of the best. BUT if there is a professional cleaning crew that comes in the owner may want to double check their work. The hot tub was great for the kids but it is off the master bedroom so not the ideal place. The beds were comfy and there is tons of blankets,bedspreads and throws to use. It did seem like a very safe road behind the cabin where I walked my dog. Not much traffic back there. I would say the owner needs to be more responsive to problems. The upstairs shower started leaking the next to last day of our stay down into the master bedroom ceiling. I messaged Dorothy but never received a response. Luckily we were checking out the next day. It’s been 20 hours now and still no response. ##### Frankie C.
